Job description

Goodman Masson has partnered with a leading institution within the Reinsurance space. They are looking to build out their Reinsurance teams and have a Syndicate Accounting expert to bring their specialism to the development of the function. This is a newly created role due to the recent and drastic success of the business, both locally and internationally. You will assist with new implementation projects, business expansion and have a key role in driving the success of the developing finance teams. Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Management:

    • Oversee the financial aspects of assigned syndicates, ensuring accurate accounting, reporting, and compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Manage financial transactions, including premium and claims accounting.
  2. Syndicate Reporting:

    • Oversee the preparation and analysis of syndicate financial statements, reports, and other relevant documents.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide insights into financial performance and trends.
  3. Reinsurance Accounting:

    • Handle complex reinsurance accounting transactions and reconciliations.
    • Monitor reinsurance recoverables and ensure timely collection.
  4. Budgeting and Forecasting:

    • Contribute to the development of syndicate budgets and forecasts.
    • Monitor actual performance against budgeted targets and provide variance analysis.
  5. Regulatory Compliance:

    • Stay abreast of regulatory changes impacting syndicate accounting.
    • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, accounting standards, and reporting requirements.
  6. Team Leadership:

    • Lead and manage a team of finance professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and support.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
  7. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with underwriters, claims teams, and other relevant departments to facilitate smooth financial operations.
    • Communicate financial information and insights effectively to internal stakeholders.
  8. Process Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the syndicate accounting function.
    • Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  2. Professional accounting qualification (e.g.,ACA, ACCA, CIMA,CPA).
  3. Minimum of 3 years of experience in syndicate accounting within the Insurance/financial services industry.
  4. Strong knowledge of syndicate accounting principles and practices.
  5. Excellent understanding of reinsurance accounting and reporting.
  6. Demonstrated experience in financial analysis and reporting.
  7. Proven experience in managing and leading finance professionals.
  8. Proficiency in relevant accounting software and tools.
