Senior Youth Justice Officer

The Youth Justice Service is a multi-disciplinary team delivering services to prevent and reduce offending behaviour amongst young people. A vacancy is available for an experienced Youth Justice Officer who is able to work with a wide range of young people who enter the criminal justice system and also those at risk of committing offences. The role involves working directly with young people, courts, undertaking risk assessments, report writing and working closely with partner agencies, so experience in these areas is important. As a Senior Youth Justice Officer the postholder will take on additional areas of responsibility as well as holding a more challenging / complex caseload of young people.

There is currently a vacancy for a full time, permanent Senior Youth Officer based in Huntingdon. The post is based in Scott House, Huntingdon though it is anticipated that at least half the time will be working from home or in the community.

This position is in a very challenging but rewarding area, working with young people who have offended ranging from those who haven't yet reached the court system through to those in prisons. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of community and custodial sentences ensuring effective assessment, intervention planning, review and risk management. To effectively divert young people from offending, the post-holder will be working with a range of other team members whose roles include substance misuse, psychology, accommodation, restorative justice, education, training and employment.

You will be expected to represent the service at court including supporting young people and their families through the criminal justice system.

Applicants will need a Social Work, Probation or equivalent professional qualification or have a level 6 (Batchelors) degree and substantial relevant experience in Youth Justice.
