Overview of Role:
You will be part of a devoted and enthusiastic team of Engineers and Technicians and will deliver high quality projects. The expectation is for you to have a solid background in one or, preferably, multiple sectors that can compliment the business, and ideally you will have experience in working on a wide range of medium-sized projects. Nurturing client relationships is crucial for the success of the business, and there will be an expectation to be confident with this.
As a Principal you will be expected to support the Associates in day-to-day management of the Mechanical Services team.
Purpose:
- Contributing to the development of the Early Careers members of the team, including mentor-ship
- Specify and design all the aspects of Mechanical Building Services in line with the current guidelines, regulations, standards and project deliverables
- Occasionally manage Mechanical Services in small to medium-sized projects, including cost, time, quality and client relationship management
- Advocate quality and compliance controls within projects and local team
Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering design services and consultancy work under the direction of the line manager/project lead
- Produce deliverable designs (including specifications, drawings and reports), construction stage duties, client liaison with members of construction/design teams, site surveys, project management, costing and ensuring progress against the brief
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary members of the design team; delivering efficient, safe and buildable solutions
- Checking the production of detailed drawings and calculations to ensure the engineering designs meet quality and compliance controls, customer requirements and project brief
- Contribute to preparation of tender reviews, enquiry plans, scopes of work, fee estimate sheets and change control as required
- Management of Engineers, Technicians and Early Careers in the production of design deliverables, calculations, site surveys, client liaison, construction stage duties, project management, liaison with members of design/construction teams, costing and any other relevant duty
Essential:
- Membership of a Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), or alternatively, working towards Chartered Member status
- Verifiable experience of delivery projects in more than one sector
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with an ability to simplify complex ideas
- Substantial design, specification writing and technical detailing experience
- Ability to develop relationships with external and internal stakeholders, delivering long term relationships/benefits
- Essential technical experience: Design of Mechanical Building Services system, including Public Health and HVAC
- Contributing to proposals, bids and tender specifications
- Experience in using specialist software such as: Navisworks, NBS Create/Chorus
Desirable:
- Professional registration (CEng/IEng) is preferred
- Experience of managing smaller teams; i.e. from Graduates to Engineer and Technician level
- Experience delivering multi-disciplinary projects in several sectors
- Experience in using specialist software such as: IES Thermal Modelling, AutoCAD, Revit
