Job overview

This is a unique opportunity for a midwife with leadership experience to work with a team of midwives to deliver the Maternity Triage Services across Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth (SHIP).

As matron for the service you will be working with 4 large Maternity Services with a total of 17,000 births a year to ensure that the Triage Services are safe, effective and responsive. The role will ensure that the day-to-day operations are safe and caring, staff are supported and trained appropriately and quality and safety measures are reflective of the high standards of the participating Trusts.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

What you will do:

This role is an LMNS collaborative role working with 4 Trusts in partnership to deliver the Maternity Triage Services based in the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS), Southern House, Otterbourne. 

Whilst the role is hosted by UHS its main purpose is as follows:

* Provide midwifery leadership, expertise and coordination of the Maternity Triage Telephone Services (Labour Line and AN Triage) delivered by UHS, HHFT, IOW and PHUT. 
* Provide assurance to all partners regarding the safety, quality and governance of the Maternity Triage Telephone Services.
* Ensuring supported development of the Maternity Triage Telephone Services midwifery staff facilitating continuous learning and governance.


What we are looking for:
 
We are looking for an enthusiastic leader with a track record of working in collaboration with others to deliver services. An excellent understanding of the evidence that underpins practice and a desire to drive improvement. 

The service is based in Otterbourne, but will require travel to partnering Trusts. Some working from home may be possible.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Registered midwife on relevant part of the NMC Register
  • • Academic learning at MSc level or equivalent professional qualification/experience
  • • At least 3 full years clinical experience
  • • Some clinical leadership experience
  • • Mentoring qualification
  • • Commitment to professional development
  • • BSOTS training
Desirable criteria
  • • Examination of the newborn qualification
  • MSc

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential criteria
  • • Competent clinical skills and knowledge across all areas of midwifery practice
  • • Understanding of clinical priorities
  • • Leadership or management of a team
  • • Confident knowledge and/or user of BSOTS
Desirable criteria
  • • High dependency experience
  • • Labour Line or similar phone triage service experience
  • • MDAU Experience
  • • Management training
  • • Leadership development

Getting to Work

Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes. This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited.  UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible.
