Shop Assistant – Asian Supermarket

A popular Asian supermarket based in Kensington is looking for a Shop Assistant to play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the store. Your primary responsibilities will involve assisting customers, maintaining a clean and organised store, restocking shelves, and providing support to other team members.
You will be working 40 hours per week, across Monday-Sunday, with two shifts available – 08:00-15:30/15:30-23:30.
Part time hours are also available (16 hours per week), 10:00-16:00/16:00-22:00.
As Shop Assistant, you will:

• Assist customers in finding products and provide information about their features.
• Handle customer inquiries, concerns, and requests in a professional manner.
• Acquire a thorough understanding of the products available in the supermarket, especially those unique to Asian cuisine.
• Stay updated on product promotions, discounts, and new arrivals.
• Ensure shelves are adequately stocked and well-organised.
• Monitor product expiration dates and remove expired items promptly.
• Assist in receiving and unpacking deliveries.
• Perform routine cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, and restocking cleaning supplies.
• Arrange displays to attractively showcase products.
• Operate the cash register accurately and efficiently.
• Process customer payments, issue receipts, and provide change.
• Maintain cash drawer security and report any discrepancies.
• Collaborate with colleagues to achieve daily tasks and goals.
• Follow the supermarket's policies and procedures regarding customer service, safety, and security.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations, including proper handling of food items.

We’re looking for a Shop Assistant with the following: 

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a retail or customer service role is advantageous.
• Knowledge or interest in Asian cuisine and products.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Basic math skills for cashier duties.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Capable of lifting and carrying moderately heavy items.
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
