Croda is a FTSE100 manufacturing organisation with a vision to create ‘Smart Science to Improve Lives’. With over 5,000 staff globally and over 30 sites, we are focused on innovating and manufacturing the next generation of biological ingredients to serve our customers in the Consumer Care and Life Sciences sector.
Our manufacturing site at Leek manufactures ingredients for the Pharmaceutical sector under GMP, ranging from nutritional oils to pharmaceutical excipients and actives. With over 100FTEs the site has a clear vision and progressive capex expansion plans therefore we’re looking for a Site Director to lead site operations in delivering on this growth plan.
Who we're looking for:

  • Degree qualified with prior experience in a Site Management role within the Pharmaceutical/chemical manufacturing sector.
  • An understanding of the value and responsibility of the Quality management systems covering GMP manufacturing.
  • Passion for behavioural, process and operational safety within a manufacturing environment with an ability to embed safety as a value across the site.
  • Strong commercial skills to prioritise manufacturing efficiency and business opportunities for the site in growing technology platforms aligned with Croda’s Pharma strategy.
  • Excellent people leadership skills to coach and develop a Site Leadership Team whilst also promoting continuous people development at all levels
  • Efficient communication skills to influence and engage within an international and cross-cultural organisation
  • High level of curiosity with the ability to implement change whilst promoting a culture which captures continuous improvement opportunities and mindset.
  • Background in leading people and promoting a culture based on Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion.


Key Responsibilities


  • To lead a 3–5-year site strategy encompassing all areas of Operations (Opex & Capex) SHEQ and Organisational Development to build a highly efficient and high performing site culture.
  • Effectively coach, develop and motivate all members of a cross functional site management team whilst maintaining effective succession planning
  • Build productive industrial relations with the workforce and negotiate terms and conditions, including pay with site staff on behalf of Croda as required.
  • Work closely with the Croda businesses: e.g., with sales and marketing to develop new processes and products to maximise site profitability; and with central departments (e.g., SHE, Quality, Personnel) to set development and improvement priorities, and with other sites regionally and globally where appropriate.
  • Stimulate and encourage creativity within the site management team to deal efficiently with challenges such as cost savings, process improvement and new product development and thus create a continuous improvement culture on site.
  • Ensure that proper communication, instruction, and training is delivered to site employees, and ensure that adequate consultation takes place with employees and their representatives on material issues (e.g., pay round).
  • Comply with the Croda CSR policy and ensure effective management of external relationships such as regulatory (e.g. MHRA, FDA, HSE, EA) and local community bodies.
  • Act as a change champion for the site, influencing peers, board and exec members, to promote inward investment in new products, processes and assets.
  • Anticipate high level problems and challenges to the site by keeping aware of business and external trends and be proactive in dealing with them before they arise or get too big.
  • Develop a range of options to deal with anticipated risks. Communicate serious issues and recommended actions to Regional Board and Executive
