Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Senior Management Team at Voluntary Action Leeds (VAL) in the integral role of Social Action Manager. We’re looking for an exceptional candidate who is driven by our values and a commitment to ensuring there is a thriving voluntary and community sector in Leeds which works with communities to enable positive Social Action.

You’ll be an experienced leader, good at managing and developing people and working with a wide range of stakeholders within the voluntary and community sector, as well as our public sector partners.

Working closely with the Chief Officer you’ll manage and continually develop a varied portfolio of work, including:

  • Leading the delivery of work for our major funding streams, including our local authority Infrastructure Support Fund grant and Lottery-funded Climate Action Leeds programme;
  • Overseeing the ongoing development of VAL’s core infrastructure functions including Volunteering; Forums, networks and research; and Communications and marketing; (including providing line management support to VAL Coordinators, who make up our Management Team);
  • Developing new relationships and maintaining existing strategic partnerships and collaborations, including with other infrastructure partners in Leeds and West Yorkshire;
  • Actively exploring opportunities to secure funding or generate income to enable the development of new projects and services.

This opportunity comes at a time when the voluntary and community sector are under increasing pressure, but when the value of Social Action within communities has never been more important – at VAL we take a solutions-focused approach to working with people, communities and organisations to effect meaningful change, as outlined in our 2023-26 Strategy. If our work and mission aligns with your values and experience – either personally or professionally – we want to hear from you. We particularly welcome applications from candidates from diverse communities who are currently under-represented within our management structures.

In return we offer flexible working, good terms and conditions of employment, enrolment to the Simply Health scheme and a 6.5% pension contribution.  VAL are an early adopter of the West Yorkshire Fair Work Charter, a Living Wage Employer and Mindful Employer.

If you would like to know more about the role and our work at VAL, please contact Hannah Bailey, Chief Officer, to arrange an informal discussion: Hannah.bailey@val.org.uk
