An exciting opportunity has arisen in Children’s Residential Services and we would like to welcome the right candidate to our Residential Social Care Officer team. This is an opportunity to be part of a dedicated and trauma-informed team, and to work directly with young people with a range of needs connected to their individual life experiences and childhood adversity. Social Care Officers play an important part in the lives of the residents living at Drummond/Foresters House You will be part of a team working together to ensure the safety, wellbeing and outcomes of residents are achieved. We also work collaboratively with other professionals and the 3rd sector.You will work full time, 37 hours per week with the ability to work a three shift system including waking nights.

Requirements
You will have 3 National 4s, or equivalent, the ability to undertake HNC and SVQ Level 3 training and any other relevant qualification which provides evidence of academic achievement equivalent to or above SCQF Level 7.Responsibilities
Relationship-based practice is key to positive interventions with our children, young people and families and it is important that you have the skills and qualities to provide nurturing support whilst being able to be honest and transparent with young people and their families about risks and concerns.You will work in a positive, respectful and empowering way with all young people in order to promote good relationships and encourage achievements.
You will liaise with parents and partners agencies to ensure that the best interests of the young people are respected and promoted at all times.
You will ensure you take personal responsibility for responding, recording and reporting.
Having a strengths-based approach will be beneficial so that you are able to help young people identify their strengths and how to build on them.
The Individual
As an individual the following qualities and experiences are desirable to working and sharing the life space of our young people.• You will have experience of working with vulnerable young people, along with an understanding of the needs of young people living with trauma.
• You will have experience and understanding of working collaboratively with children and young people and their families and carers.
• You will have experience of working effectively in a team.
• You will have experience of working with young people in a residential setting is desirable but not essential.
• You will be able to write review reports, risk assessment and contribute to care plans.
• You will have the ability to undertake to undertake CALM procedures
• You will have the ability to meet deadlines and work unsupervised and as part of a team, as well as on your own initiative.
• You will be self-reliant and committed to high standards of care for children and young people.
• You must be able to demonstrate a positive attendance record at work and high levels of reliability and punctuality.
• You will have the ability to work a three shift system including waking nights if required.
• You will have the ability to be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council within a specified timescale.
• This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check, prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.
