Social Worker - Adults (Grade 9)
ROLE & PURPOSE OF JOB:

Social Workers provide a vital function within Adult Social Care, ensuring that individuals have a solution focussed plan towards achieving their goals maintaining their independence. They focus on individual’s strengths not their limitations and support them towards improving their own health and wellbeing.
To work as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality social work practice.
To provide expert and effective social work practice in complex situations ensuring that social work is planned, progressed, and reviewed in accordance with legislative and departmental requirements.
Support the development of staff/team to promote an approach to people who use services that is based on the principles of co-production. To promote and develop integrated and collaborative ways of working to ensure that the best possible outcomes are achieved. This includes use of Connect to Support to enable people to get access to information and advice and access voluntary and community sector organisations and local supports.
Manages high level of risk, providing expert opinion in relation to decisions surrounding complex cases supporting staff with supervision and performance monitoring.
Provides expert leadership in strengths-based approaches to social care, solution focussed conversations, active listening, techniques to agree goals, as well as maintaining high standards of professional practice to ensure the local authorities legislative responsibilities and duties are fulfilled.
The post holder will be able to explain to others about good practice in response to primary legislation, and be able to personally demonstrate that good practice. This pertains to legislation such as Mental Capacity Act 2005, Human Rights Act 1998, Care Act 2014 and Mental Health Act 1983.
The post holder will be confident with writing reports and contributing to court reports, e.g. Court of Protection.
Qualifications:
Professional qualification in Social Work (Diploma in Social Work, BA/BSc/MA in Social Work, CQSW as required by Health & Care Professions Council).
Registered with the Health & Care Professionals Council.
Evidence of continuing professional development e.g. post-qualifying awards
Qualifying Best Interest Assessor Award – within 18 months of taking up post.
Accredited as a Trusted Assessor – within 6 months of taking up post
Relevant Experience:
Experience of assessment and planning, initiating, monitoring, developing and providing outcomes-driven services in adult social care.
Experience of working within the legal framework for Adult Social Care
Ability to work within a service framework that promotes dignity, choice and control whilst safeguarding vulnerable people.
Experience of decision-making on complex/high risk cases within the Adult Social Care arena.
Experience of working with adults at risk
Experience of working within a legislative framework i.e. Deprivation of Liberty, Mental Capacity Act
Experience of working with IT and using the governance of data protection.
Skills (including thinking challenge/mental demands):
Motivation to work with vulnerable adults
Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with vulnerable adults
The ability to communicate clearly and make decisions under pressure in challenging circumstances.
Ability to plan ahead / organise / prioritise, implement changing practice requirements
Knowledge:
To protect the safety and welfare of vulnerable adults, families and their carers, within the ‘making safeguarding personal’ principles. Recognise risk indicators of different forms of abuse and neglect. Demonstrate an outcome focussed, person centred approach to safeguarding practice.
Skilled in routinely and efficiently applying critical reflection and analysis to increasingly complex cases.
Ability to motivate, support and supervise staff
Skilled in solution focused thinking and the development of Adult Social Care as an outcomes oriented service system.
Working knowledge of legislation such as MCA, Best Interest, Deprivation of Liberty, Direct Payments
