Job description

It’s an exciting time to be a Social Worker in the Learning Disability, Preparing for Adulthood and Autism Team!

Could you bring your experience and passion for improving outcomes for people with Learning Disabilities and Autism in the City of York?

Due to a recent increase in funding, we have 3 additional exciting opportunities for Social Workers to join our team.

York Adult Learning Disability, Autism and Preparing for Adulthood Team support adults, families and informal carers who live in the city to live as an enjoyable and independent life as possible.

We work in a strength-based way to listen to and empower individuals, identify their outcomes and explore ways of using their own strengths, informal networks and sometimes statutory services to help them achieve their goals.

We work with a wide variety of people with varying support needs so every day is different!

We are looking for someone who is positive, proactive and creative to make a difference in the lives of people with Learning Disabilities and autism.

This will include working with professionals from health, education and other professional networks and considering a range of options to help meet their care act eligible needs.

In order to apply you will need a degree in Social Work and also be registered, or planning to register with Social Work England (SWE) to apply.

We are not currently licenced to sponsor employees for visas, therefore are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.

The Council is highly committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.

Relocation expenses, in accordance with the City of York Council’s Relocation Policy, may be available for the successful candidate subject to meeting the relevant criteria.

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.

City of York Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. We require the successful candidate to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
