Salary: Up to £52,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
Contract type: Permanent
Location: London Broadcasting House (one / two days per week in our office at New Broadcasting House)

  • Technical task for shortlisted candidates – approx. one hour preparation time
  • Virtual interview – approx. one hour of technical and values-based questions

Main Responsibilities


As a Software Engineer in Test within the iPlayer Recommendations team, you will have a role in shaping, refining, and delivering the strategic and operational testing strategy for a defined product set.
You will be engaged in all aspects of SDLC, including architecture, design, specs, tests, development, and delivery. As a QA advocate, you will be reviewing new features that come in, assessing them, writing test plans, and working with developers to understand their impact on performance. You will also contribute to the test writing and maintaining the test suite that supports this effort.
We would look for you to be an active participant in fostering a learning culture throughout the organisation through active dissemination of knowledge, coaching, mentoring and inspiring other members of the TE team.
You’re rigorous in the way you test features and committed to making the product you’re testing the best it can possibly be.

Are you the right candidate


Some of the things we love:
  • Experience of building functional and performance test frameworks using tools: Rest-Assured, Cucumber, AWS SDK and Gatling (essential)
  • Experience of developing tests in Languages: Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python
  • Experience of using deployment tools: Jenkins, Codebuild, CodePipelin etc
  • Strong understanding and appreciation of test automation principles, including distributed testing methods
  • Experience with BDD and/or TDD practices
  • Used to working in an environment using various source control solutions (Git, etc.) including branching & working with repositories
  • Knowledge of the software development and software testing lifecycles
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment (Scrum)
  • Experience of working with recommendations system is plus
