This role is based out of our Snowhill, Birmingham office. We work to a hybrid model of 3 days together, 2 days wherever.

As a Front-end Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in our team by contributing to the development and maintenance of a modern design system of resuable components. Your work will be essential in facilitating the expansion and integration of this design system across various customer-facing digital journeys, ensuring a seamless and cohesive user experience.

Working alongside dedicated developers who prioritize accessibility and inclusiveness, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the experience of our customers. Collaborating closely with application teams, you'll contribute to the development of a business-wide solution aimed at enhancing consistency, quality, and time-to-market for BT's web applications.

Your contributions will be instrumental in enabling the seamless rollout and integration of our system across all BT brand digital products.
What you’ll be doing
  • Collaborate with a team of engineers to assist in the development and upkeep of BT’s Component library.
  • Contribute to the implementation of new features and improvements within the codebase to support efficient project delivery.
  • Follow established development practices and quality standards to ensure code contributions meet company requirements.
  • Work closely with senior engineers to understand and address technical challenges encountered during updates.
  • Promote best practices within the engineering community and participate in knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Assist in defining technical requirements and evaluating technology options in alignment with BT's architectural principles.
  • Support the team in maintaining high standards of engineering excellence through regular assessments and process improvements.
  • Participate in communication channels for sharing engineering updates and gather feedback from engineering teams.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and tools to suggest potential enhancements for team productivity.
  • Assist in coordinating the release process for updates under the guidance of senior team members.
Your Skills and Experiences
Required
  • Proficiency in foundational technologies such as HTML and CSS, JavaScript.
  • Good grasp of web performance and accessibility issues.

Desired
  • Solid understanding of web development technologies, including modern frameworks like React, and familiarity with TypeScript.
  • Ability to recognize and address technical risks and overcome potential obstacles proactively.
  • Awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and software engineering best practices to support team learning and encourage innovation.
  • Basic knowledge of structuring front-end code with sustainable practices for scalability and maintainability.
  • Basic understanding of modern development tools and automation techniques.
  • Familiarity with automated testing methods.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
