Test Development Engineer – Software | De’Longhi Group (De’Longhi, Kenwood and Braun) | Kenwood Global Headquarters, Havant, Hampshire | £Competitive + excellent benefits package
Seeking a Software Test Development Engineer to join Kenwood’s drive for flawless technology
The embedded software within De’Longhi Group products delivers an intuitive, enjoyable user experience for consumers. And like all successful technology, it doesn’t come together by accident; it’s the result of a process. Developed by our R&D team, our software is tested and refined through a close collaboration between our Quality, User Experience and Electronics Engineer teams to ensure it is fit for purpose.
And that’s where you come in, because we’re now seeking a Test Development Engineer - Software to lead this very important skillset. This is a great opportunity to work for a global brand family, on some of our most prestige products in the IOT and consumer space.
The role
Working within Quality but with a dotted line report to the Electronics Manager, you’ll initially focus on Kenwood food preparation products; specifically analysis and creation of test requirements that validate software developed during the NPD process.
As well as developing tests for straight-line use cases, you’ll need to consider “what if?” scenarios and ensure product software can survive having its limits tested by consumers unfamiliar with our technology.
Typically you’ll work in fortnightly sprints, proactively working with our developers, instigating audits, investigating issues and reporting them to the development team with a focus on enabling developers to solve the issues you find from the quality of your analysis, and your ability to re-create the issue seen.
You’ll use industry-standard tools such as TestRail and Jira, also working with a recipe team and a third-party app developer.
Success in this role means completing your work in a timely fashion, having the imagination to anticipate how consumers will engage with our products in their home, and above all, facilitating solutions so you’re an enabler of progress for a broad set of internal stakeholders including Product Quality Owners as well as the development team.
Key responsibilities
Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
· System-level firmware testing of appliances including GUI, IOT, App and Embedded Appliance functionality.
· PCBA interface/module testing to ensure system components comply with functional requirements.
· Ownership and development of the Software Test toolset and infrastructure.
· Development of new/improvement of existing test methods for design validation according to quality requirements.
· Planning, execution and follow up of internal quality audits according to ISO9001.
· Testing of embedded products with IOT capability and development of effective test plans.
· Creating well-defined and structured manual test cases in TestRail.
· Responsible for automated test cases in Python.
About you
Success in this role will depend on your ability to act as a bridge between R&D and Quality. To that end you’ll need to be open, communicative and collaborative, with the ability to solve problems, the diplomacy to provide constructive feedback and the desire to facilitate solutions for developers.
Although you’ll join a close-knit Quality team, you’ll be the only person with your remit, so you’ll be self-motivating and able to manage your own time.
You must be able to bring best practice to the role and, from this, influence and drive continuous improvement in how we validate the embedded software used in, or with, our products.
You’ll likely have an Engineering degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent, but demonstrable success in an embedded firmware test role, with experience of testing connected or IoT products, is more important. A high level of competence in Python is a must, and familiarity with Jira and TestRail should come with your experience.
You’ll be working with some fantastic food preparation products, so you might enjoy the role even more if you’re a foodie!
What’s in it for you?
You’ll join a friendly team working on exciting food preparation products that you can take home and try out for yourself—but more than that, you’ll be the leader of your capability within the quality function of Kenwood, and instrumental in its future direction.
Our work environment and investment into staff is outstanding, and our extensive benefits include:
· Competitive incentivised salary
· Excellent contributory pension
· 25 days holiday + bank holidays
· Superb subsidised restaurant
· Free on-site parking
· Flexible benefits package
· Access to a range of wellbeing activities and events
