What sort of work? Our highly experienced Banking, Restructuring & Insolvency team is looking for a Solicitor to join one of our South West based offices (Bristol, Cheltenham or Exeter) and assist with banking and finance matters particularly in relation to lending secured on property.

In this role you will support the team in delivering a first-class service to clients. This will include:

  • Performing searches with HM Land Registry, Companies House and other agencies and registries
  • Undertaking property due diligence in relation to property /developments over which security is to be taken
  • Reviewing leases, Licences to Alter, planning documentation in relation to property over which clients have existing security
  • Liaising with overseas lawyers providing Legal Opinions in relation to overseas borrowing entities
  • Working with other team members and clients to improve our transactional processes
  • Active participation in business development initiatives
  • Reviewing and replying to correspondence
  • Completing legal research and be aware of current legislation and legal issues
  • Drafting correspondence and security documents such as legal charges
  • Managing files diligently and review each regularly
  • Managing deal data rooms
  • Compliance with internal policies and procedures, ethical standards and regulatory requirements

Why this team? Our banking and finance team act for banks, financial institutions, asset based lenders, trade financiers, alternative lenders, development finance institutions, impact funds, borrowers and other stake holders in a wide variety of banking and finance related matters, including support on the financial components of commercial property, residential and investment property, projects and infrastructure transactions as well as corporate finance and banking transactions.

We offer a first rate, highly commercial, expedient and economic service based on our thorough knowledge of the subject, sector expertise and the unrivalled experience of our banking and finance team, with particular specialisms in international impact investment matters, private wealth, bridging, development and other property-based lending.

The Banking, Restructuring and Insolvency team is led by Sacha Pickering, who is ranked as a notable practitioner in Chambers and Partners and a leading individual in The Legal 500. In this role you will also be working closely with Sally Rice, who specialises in Real Estate finance.

The team is well known for the high value and complex work it undertakes, particularly in the spheres of impact investment and private wealth, both domestically and internationally, which make it unique in the South West market.

Our clients include, Standard Bank, OakNorth Bank, Octopus Ral Estate, Finnish Fund for Industrial Cooperation, Norfund, Soros Economic Development Fund, Exeter Chiefs, Mindful Chef, St Austell Brewery, Seasalt and Succession Wealth, all of whom we work with on some of the highest profile deals in the South West, nationally and internationally.

  • Be 1-2 years PQE
  • Be an enthusiastic, friendly team player who has excellent attention to detail and a 'can do' approach to work
  • Have excellent organisational skills with a methodical approach to workloads with ability to adhere to strict deadlines
  • Be able to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines in a flexible and proactive way
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills as the successful candidate will need to deliver outstanding client service, having plenty of day-to-day contact with clients
  • Have the ability to work under pressure
  • Become a vital member of a busy, friendly team and will thrive from the opportunity to deliver a first-class service to our key clients
  • Be prepared to put forward and develop ideas to improve our transactional processes and delivery of client service
  • Keen to contribute to the team's growth by identifying opportunities
