Job Title: Solutions Architect

Salary/Grade: £60,000 - £65,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Location : Peterborough (hybrid – 3 days a week in office)

The opportunity

Caterpillar is investing in our digital future, and we’re looking for a Solutions Architect that will own the creation and maintenance of the architectural roadmap. This is an exciting opportunity as Caterpillar looks to grow capability in support of a new product range, looking for ways to exploit technology to deliver business process changes and risk mitigation.

As the Solutions Architect, you will determine and develop architectural approaches and solutions, conduct architectural reviews and recommend how to proceed with the applications (replace, retire, maintain, etc.). Developing strong understanding of medium to long term business outcomes and the value creation opportunity and, executing gap analysis of future business requirements against existing application architecture will be imperative to the success in this role. You will establish a broad network of contacts both within Caterpillar and with suppliers, partners and other industry benchmarks to ensure synergy or replication opportunities are identified. You will closely work with product owners, business stakeholders and the broader enterprise architecture community to come up with application architecture plans, technology design and lifecycle, that is in alignment with business related goals.

What you will do:

  • Lead the development of architecture solutions for in support of key divisional projects and programs.

  • Develop, maintain, and align roadmaps and application evolution to enterprise program plans.

  • Evolve vendor capability and evaluation of new technology, information, or integration standards.

  • Develop the digital strategy for a specific technical or business domain.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of current and planned state architecture blueprints.

  • Participate in the design and implementation of enterprise data model and metadata structures.

  • Contribute to business lead requirements sessions and drive IT gap analysis sessions as an outcome.

  • Participate in Design Authority meetings with deployment teams to ensure core business outcomes are clear.

  • Have accountability for business related IT strategy document and maintain the Technical Architecture diagrams and associated security assessments.

  • Apply enterprise-wide view to solutions to support the adoption of standards and practices and promote reuse.

What you have:

System and Technology Integration

Level Expert:

  • Experience with technologies such as Salesforce and /or SAP with the understanding of how these systems integrate.

  • Knowledge of web service / micro service architect and other system integration techniques.

  • Experience in mapping user journeys.

  • Demonstrable experience delivering and maintaining a software product.

Application Design - Architecture:

Level Expert:

  • Able to contribute to the establishment and implementation of best practices for application design.

  • Experience with evaluating and selecting emerging application design tools and techniques.

  • Ability to mentor junior members of the team to create multiple application designs on multiple technology platforms.

  • Provide application architecture consulting and educational support to associates and business line areas.

Problem Solving

Level Expert:

  • Efficient in resolving moderately complex issues that occur in the development of business requirements that impact the IT design.

  • Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organisational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

  • Able to gain input from preferred vendors to leverage best practice and Subject Matter Expertise.

  • Understanding of developing benchmarks to demonstrate business value creation or reduction in Total Cost of Ownership.

  • Ability to orchestrate the resolution of high-impact and cross-functional problems.

Technology Advising:

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Able to guide broader analyst and technical resources from internal and external partner organisations on the techniques and approaches used in design processes.

  • Experience in collaborating with an extended professional technology network to help clients effectively identify, plan for and accomplish technology objectives.

  • Ability to identify and evaluate emerging technologies and advises clients regarding their potential business impacts.

  • The ability to effectively communicate with internal and external teams that include business partners and third-party vendors.

  • Effectively consults with and conveys technology concepts, business impacts and other advice to senior client levels.

  • Trains others in developing technology business, channel management and client coaching.

Top candidates will also have:

  • An accredited college or university degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.

Additional information:

Up to 25% travel, depending on project requirements – this will be beneficial to develop and strengthen knowledge of the broader enterprise as well as to attend workshops and vendor hosted events.
