Job description


An opportunity has arisen for a full-time band 6 Orthoptist to work within a team of 13 Orthoptists and 8 Ophthalmic Technicians working for Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust, based at New Cross Hospital and Cannock Eye Centre.
Specific responsibilities of the post holder will be to be part of the clinic co-ordinators rotation, supervising the daily running of orthoptic clinics, undertaking clinical tuition of orthoptic undergraduate students & assisting the Head orthoptist with a range of operational duties.
A diploma/degree in Orthoptics and HPC registration is essential. The postholder will be expected to travel between the hospital sites at New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital and various locations in the community to carry out clinics and visual screening.
The post would be suitable for an orthoptist, with at least 1 year’s post-graduation clinical experience, but we would also consider applications from newly qualified orthoptists; a successful applicant in this case would take up a band 5 post.
The successful applicant will need to be prepared to work compressed hours which will require undertaking some evening clinics. The working pattern will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Duties will include a varied Orthoptic case-load plus specialist ocular-motility, paediatric ophthalmology and stroke clinics; Receiving secondary & tertiary referrals, primary & secondary screening visual screening in clinics, schools & special schools.
