The Council’s Street Care service is responsible for the cleanliness of the whole borough. The team undertake a range of street cleaning and Street Care activities to ensure that public spaces across the Borough are maintained to a high environmental quality. The Council operates in accordance with code of practice on litter and refuse, thereby helping to provide an attractive and diverse environment where people feel safe and secure.
We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to play a key role in helping us achieve national standards of cleanliness as part of the city centre team. The postholder will work on their own and as part of a team. Duties of the role include sweeping, cleansing and removing litter from the highway and public areas. This will involve using pedestrian controlled sweeping machines, broom and hand tools, and servicing the many litter bins we have across the city. A current full UK driving licence is essential.
Based at our Freighter House depot in Springfield, the postholder would be expected to work 37 hours per week usually on the following working pattern:
Monday to Thursday 06:00 to 14:00 and Friday 06:00 to 13:30.
However, flexibility will be required including earlier starts on occasions or late finishes if there are events on in the city centre.
