Street Cleansing Operative – The Roles:
Full-time position:
Working across Braintree, Witham and Halstead, the full-time role will include street sweeping (mechanical/manual), litter picking, bin emptying, (including dog bins), collecting fly tips, market clearance and the removal of dead animals.
You will be required to work five days a week on a rota basis, which will include weekend working. Monday to Friday hours will be on shifts from 6am to 2pm or 8am to 4pm and weekend shifts will be between the hours of 6am to 6pm.
Part-time position:
For the part-time role, working primarily at the George Yard multi-storey car park in Braintree, your duties will include locking the premises, litter picking, bin emptying and sweeping and cleaning the lifts and stairwells. You will also carry out general Street Cleansing duties at other locations across the District.
The part-time role is 20 hours per week, which will include weekend working. The working hours will be: Sunday 12pm-5pm and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 2.30pm-7.30pm.
Street Cleansing Operative – You:
- Experience of working in an outdoor environment and of undertaking a range of manual tasks
- Understanding of Health and Safety systems including manual handling and risk assessment
- Some experience of Street Cleansing together with a working knowledge of tools and plant used in Street Cleansing activities including street sweeping machines would be desirable
- Ability to work outdoors in all weathers together with the ability to walk, bend, kneel and stand for long periods of time and perform heavy lifting if needed
- A full clean driving licence together with a 7.5 tonne licence (essential for full time post, desirable for part time post)
- Ability to work in a team or individual based environment
- Flexibility and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the operation of the street scene service
- Polite and helpful with the public at all times
- Have an understanding of Health & Safety systems including manual handling and risk assessments and safe systems of work
