Responsibilities:
- Provide expert clinical leadership and specialist care to patients with acute stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA)
- Lead the stroke service, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care in accordance with national guidelines and standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and coordinate seamless transitions of care from the acute phase through to rehabilitation and community services
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, including neuroimaging and diagnostic tests, to facilitate timely diagnosis and treatment decisions
- Implement stroke prevention strategies, including the management of modifiable risk factors and the prescription of appropriate medications
- Participate in acute stroke thrombolysis and endovascular thrombectomy procedures, demonstrating proficiency and adherence to clinical protocols
- Provide education and support to patients and their families, empowering them to understand stroke risk factors, signs, and symptoms
- Contribute to clinical research and audit projects aimed at improving stroke care delivery, patient outcomes, and service development
- Engage in teaching and training activities for junior medical staff, students, and allied health professionals to promote excellence in stroke care
Requirements:
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register for Stroke Medicine
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) or equivalent qualification
- Extensive experience working in stroke medicine, with a strong foundation in acute stroke management and thrombolytic therapy
- Excellent clinical skills, including the ability to interpret neuroimaging studies, perform lumbar punctures, and manage complex stroke cases
- Leadership qualities, with the ability to inspire and motivate multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality stroke care
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients, families, and colleagues
