Job description

Are you experienced and passionate about working with students who have additional needs? I am seeking dedicated individuals to join my team in providing exceptional care and education to students across Birmingham.

About the role

As a Student Support Worker, you will play a vital role in schools by supporting the social, emotional, mental, and physical health of students, ensuring they have full access to education. Your responsibilities will include adapting resources, lessons, and learning styles to meet the unique needs and learning levels of each pupil you support. You will employ de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour strategies to assist students who display challenging behaviours. This role demands a compassionate, adaptable approach, with a focus on personalized support, behaviour management, and fostering the overall well-being and academic success of students with additional needs.

This SEMH Specialist setting is a supportive and nurturing environment tailored to meet the needs of students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. They provide individualized care and education, utilizing specialized strategies to address the unique needs of each student. Staff are highly trained in de-escalation techniques, positive behaviour support, and therapeutic interventions, creating a safe and inclusive atmosphere where students can thrive. The curriculum is adapted to ensure accessibility and engagement, promoting both academic and personal growth.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of Student Support Worker you will:
  • Experience working with people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, or a relevant qualification and placement for working with young people.
  • A DBS Check, or readiness to undergo a DBS check.
  • Strong communication skills and understanding of different communication methods/techniques.
  • Experience of trauma informed practice.
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
  • Experience working with people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, or a relevant qualification and placement for working with young people.
