Do you have experience or transferable skills in the field of addictions? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our client's team as a Housing Support Worker.

Reed is excited to bring to you a role with our client in Hartlepool. Our client is looking to recruit a Housing Support Worker to work within their Substance Misuse service. It is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced support work specialising in substance misuse and proving a person-centred approach to help services users maintain housing, employment and/or education.

Job Title: Housing, Employability and Skills Liaison Officer
Location: Hartlepool
Salary: £29,269 per annum
Contract: Fixed Term Contract (till March 2025), Full Time

The purpose of this post is to work within a Substance misuse service to provide housing and employability support to service users who will have additional needs and vulnerabilities linked to their Substance Misuse. The main aim of the post is to support individuals to gain suitable housing along with support to maintain their tenancy. The successful applicant will work as part of a team including recovery coordinators and clinical staff.

As part of the role, you will develop and maintain key working relationships with:

  • Clinical providers
  • Service users and carers
  • Child & Adult Social Care Teams
  • Housing Teams
  • Housing Landlords
  • Voluntary and Community Providers
  • Partner Agencies


The day-to-day duties of the role include:

  • To carry a caseload of service users delivering targeted support where housing is identified as an issue.
  • Provide support, advice and guidance to service users around Education, Training and Employment.
  • To work in partnership with the integrated drug treatment system workers, identified training, education and housing providers, local communities and the wider business.
  • To work collaboratively with services, internally and externally to develop effective pathways, to ensure cohesive and seamless transition for service users.
  • To support the service user with any identified housing issues and needs and act as an advocate when supporting through legislative housing processes.
  • The assessment and prevention of homelessness and the provision of appropriate advice and assistance.


To be successful in this role you must:

  • Have a good level of education and be willing to learn.
  • Experience in a similar role, including completing assessments, planning support and doing ongoing reviews.
  • Experience of supporting in a homeless setting.
  • Experience of working with multiple agencies (GP, NHS, Social Services, Housing) to support individuals. 
  • Good level of knowledge regarding welfare benefits, managing money and debt management.

The successful post holder will be required to complete ongoing training in safeguarding, equality and diversity, employee protection register and information governance. 

Please note that this role qualifies for safer recruitment checks which will include an enhanced DBS check and suitable period of referencing prior to starting the post if you are successful.
