About this client/child:
Phoebe (18) is a lovely young lady who loves everything pink and glittery and all things music and dance! Phoebe lives in a fully adapted house with her parents, younger siblings, and two very loving dogs (Labrador and Labradoodle). Phoebe has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, complex care medical needs, epilepsy, is non-verbal, and has a visual impairment. All medication and fluids are administered via a PEG, she is oxygen-dependent overnight, and requires occasional suctioning. Phoebe is currently attending a specialist education setting and plans are in place for her to attend a day setting community-based placement next year. Phoebe’s home is fully-adapted and she had her own area (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and therapy room) in her family home. Phoebe has a care team in place providing round-the-clock support and there is an opening for two full-time carers to join her team. All training for new team members is provided.

Overview of role:
Your role will be to provide holistic support to Phoebe in all aspects of her health, care, and medical needs (personal care, administering medication, PEG feed, therapy programmes, manual handling). Plan fun, stimulating, and sensory activities Phoebe can enjoy. The waking night shift starts at 6.45pm with a full handover. You will assist Phoebe with her evening and bedtime routine, once settled you will continually monitor Phoebe throughout the night, tending to all her needs and complete any paperwork/reports from the shift. There is a carer’s room with a comfortable chair and desk. There is the opportunity to travel with the family to support Phoebe on her summer holidays - valid Passport, please! Training is provided in all aspects of Phoebe’s care plan, whilst previous experience supporting a young person with additional needs is an advantage, it is not essential.

Shift pattern: Nights: 6.45pm to 7.00am. Weekdays: 6.45am to 10.30am and 2.30pm to7.00pm. Weekends and School Holidays: 6.45am to 7.00pm. The rota is completed 4 weeks in advance and will involve working a mixture of long days, mornings, afternoons, and nights.

Who this job would suit:
This position will suit a responsible, flexible, patient, and warm *female Support Worker. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated person to join an established home care team, develop existing skills, and support this very special young lady.

What’s great about this job:
This is a very rewarding role, and you will become part of Phoebe’s dedicated team. The family is fully supportive. You will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced nurses and carers and with treating therapists.
