About the role
The Systems Engineer sits within the ServiceDesk team and supports the ServiceDesk Manager and junior colleagues as a technical escalation point. The Engineer will provide a reactive / proactive second / third line technical support service for students and staff.
You must have an excellent customer services presence and be able to communicate and work with a wide range of stakeholders (technical and non-technical) to ensure resolution and continuity of ICT provision.
You will be supporting a range of IT Services such as Windows Server, Windows 11, MacOS, EntraID/Azure, Mobile devices, BYOD, Office 365, Print Management, Active Directory, Audio Visual and authentication services. The role will support and develop ServiceDesk processes and procedures in pursuit of delivering excellent customer service and support high quality digital resources and services as required by our strategic plans.
A ServiceDesk system (Fresh Service) is used to manage incidents and service requests. Excellent Microsoft Office and data entry skills are required to ensure integrity of data. The post is expected to be flexible in working hours and will be based on the Arts University Bournemouth campus between 8:30 and 5pm weekdays with occasional evening and weekend work.
AUB has a competitive salary scale with yearly increment points within each paygrade (reviewed annually). The role comes with 6.6 weeks annual leave (includes Bank Holidays) rising to 7.6 weeks after 5 years’ service, and we have a range of staff benefits. The post will have a core working pattern (08:30 – 17:00/16:30 on Fridays).
Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Two or more years’ experience working in an IT Support role.
- Experience of resolving escalated technical issues in a second line or equivalent role.
- A general background and proven aptitude in IT Systems and software support including excellent Microsoft Office skills.
- Proven consistent customer service skills.
- Experience of working in an IT ServiceDesk would be a bonus, but not essential.
- Evidence and interest in continual professional development (Microsoft / CompTIA / Apple / ITIL / SDI certification etc).
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following abilities:
- Ability to confidently communicate with stakeholders (Students and Staff) at all levels both technical and non-technical with excellent written and spoken English.
- Good attention to detail.
- Organised, with an ability to cope with multiple conflicting priorities whilst maintaining a calm and methodical approach.
