Programme Description

Tax Consulting

What does this team do?

Our Tax Consulting business provides companies with tax advisory and compliance services, as well as transaction advice. We help our clients make the right decisions on all aspects of their tax with regards to their investments. You’ll have the opportunity to work within one of the following teams:

Business Tax: helping our clients manage their corporate tax demands.

Global Investment & Innovation Incentives (Gi3): our Innovation Tax team and Tax Depreciation team help companies access funding relating to Research and Development, patents and capital investment in real estate.

Transactions & Investment Funds Tax: we help our clients make commercial tax decisions on their investments, be they private fund managers or a client buying a global technology group.

Indirect Tax: Indirect Taxes relate to every transaction involving goods and services. We work with our clients to help them manage these taxes. You could be involved in VAT or part of the Global Trade team dealing with business, legal, economic and market changes.

Global Employer Services: we help our clients deal with their workforce challenges, looking at incentives and rewards as well as making sure companies comply with employment tax regulations globally.

What skills and academic qualifications do I need?

You’ll need to have obtained or be studying towards at least 104 UCAS points (260 UCAS points pre-2017) for your A levels (or equivalent) to be eligible for this programme.

What kind of work will I do?

Join our BrightStart programme within Tax Consulting and you’ll get to work on the tax affairs of many high-profile companies across a range of sectors. We work with many of the world’s largest and most influential businesses, from tech start-ups to public sector bodies; from FTSE 100 and Global 2000 multinational groups to charities. We’re sure you’ll recognise their names! We also work with private clients of high net worth, including business owners, private equity firms or international clients. A role with us will involve a mix of reporting and advisory work. One day you could be researching and writing about tax-related topics, the next getting involved in pricing or deals. The diverse nature of our work means you may be advising the manager of a mobility programme or helping a business deal with tax authorities. Often, our clients and colleagues will work overseas.

What’s in it for me?

Join as a BrightStart at Deloitte and you’ll work alongside many like-minded colleagues, playing an important part in our tax business. As a new student in Tax & Legal, you’ll first attend the Tax & Legal Academy. Here, you’ll meet your peers, make great connections, and learn both soft and technical skills.

How will I develop?

You’ll be fully supported with all the training resources you need, as well as invaluable help from colleagues. Local, practical training sessions will help you build your network and advance your career. And you’ll be allocated a buddy to help you with your new role, as well as a coach who’ll offer career guidance and development. You’ll become a well-rounded Tax Consultant, able to get your ideas across clearly and constructively challenge the status quo.

You may also be given the opportunity to study towards one or more of the following qualifications:

§ The Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) qualification.

§ Chartered Institute of Taxation (CTA) qualification.

§ ACA Accounting Qualification.

§ ICAS (Scotland only).

§ ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB.)

§ Customs Practitioner Award and Diploma in World Customs Compliance.

Our commitment to you:

We work hard to create an environment where you can experience a purpose you believe in, the freedom to be you, and the capacity to go further than ever before. We want you. The true you. Your own strengths, perspective and personality. We’re nurturing a culture where everyone belongs, feels supported and heard, and is empowered to make a valuable, personal contribution. You can be sure we’ll take your wellbeing seriously, too. Because it’s only when you’re comfortable and at your best that you can make the kind of impact you, and we, live for. Your expertise is our capability, so we’ll make sure it never stops growing. Whether it’s from the complex work you do, or the people you collaborate with, you’ll learn every day. Through world-class development, you’ll gain invaluable technical and personal skills. Whatever your level, you’ll learn how to lead.
