Direct Tax Manager

Lloyd’s are currently looking to recruit a Direct Tax Manager, to deal with Direct Tax issues affecting the Corporation, taking responsibility for Direct Tax compliance, reporting and payment obligations of the Corporation and its UK subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with risk and governance requirements, oversight of the Corporation’s overseas subsidiaries, technical input into project and advisory work and line management, training and development responsibility for junior member of staff.
The Tax team is part of the Finance Directorate within The Corporation of Lloyd’s.
The Tax Department manages the tax affairs of the Corporation and provides support and assistance to the Lloyd’s Market on tax matters affecting the Market, including the filing of tax returns and payment of taxes. It also represents the interests of the Lloyd’s Market with UK and overseas tax authorities.
Principal Accountabilities for the Direct Tax Manager
* Responsibility for preparation and delivery of UK tax returns and other UK compliance (e.g. CbCR, CIR etc) for the Corporation and its UK subsidiaries for review by a senior manager with support from junior member of the team
* Responsibility for preparation and delivery of the consolidated group tax reporting workbook for review by a senior manager with support from junior member of the team
* Providing Direct Tax technical analysis to and leading on Lloyd’s Corporation projects and queries
* Responsibility for monitoring the operation of key controls within tax department
* Responsibility for maintaining governance framework for overseas network
* Liaise with HMRC on areas relevant to role
* Act as a principal point of contact outside of the department for Direct Tax matters and provide support to other departments on Direct Tax issues
* Management and development responsibility for junior member of staff
Skills Knowledge required for the Direct Tax Manager
* ACA, CTA or similar qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA); existing tax qualifications or willingness to obtain preferred
* Solid grounding in UK corporation tax compliance and reporting is essential and an awareness of other taxes (e.g. capital gains tax, VAT, PAYE and premium taxes)
* Solid and broad knowledge of key UK and international Direct Tax issues and the tax environment
* Either in-depth knowledge of or the ability to develop and maintain an in depth knowledge of the insurance industry and the Lloyd’s market
* Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to provide guidance to others and communicate tax-technical issues to a non-tax audience
* Excellent attention to detail
* Ability to organise and prioritise work and work independently with guidance only on complex issues
* Ability to work as part of a team and liaise with other departments and external contacts
* Ability to analyse changes in legislation and assess impact of changes on Lloyd’s and its members
* Proactive attitude toward identifying issues and recommending solutions based on initiative, experience and understanding of procedures
* Confidence to challenge information provided and to use initiative especially in dealing with areas of ambiguity
* Consultative approach and the ability to manage conflicting views
