The appointment is for a full-time, permanent member of staff to teach History up to GCSE standard and History and/or Government and Politics up to A-Level standard.
The History and Politics Department operates very successfully at all Key Stages, with large numbers of boys choosing the subjects at GCSE and A-Level and achieving excellent results. All boys study History at Key Stage 3. There are normally three GCSE History classes in each Year group in Key Stage 4, and 2 A-Level History classes in Years 13 and 14. The CCEA specification is followed at GCSE. There is normally one A-Level Government & Politics class in each of Years 13 and 14, following the Edexcel specification.
The Department is staffed by four full time teachers and one part time member of staff and is located in four modern classrooms in the Middle School building. This post is created through the retirement of one of the members of the department.
Although this will be primarily a History/Politics position, we would like to have the flexibility in terms of timetabling to be able to offer a subsidiary subject. The is likely to be, but not restricted to, Religious Education and/or ICT though candidates are welcome to offer other potential subsidiary subjects.
