Wetherby Preparatory School is one of London’s leading prep schools, regularly sending boys to the top day and boarding schools in the country. The School enjoys a heavily oversubscribed intake at 7+ and 8+ and a strong reputation with its parents and wider prep and senior school community. The successful candidate will contribute to the next stage of the School’s development and help to facilitate and maximise the opportunities afforded by the expansion to the next door building and continued development of Wetherby Sports Ground.
We seek to recruit either an existing, specialist teacher, or a talented practitioner who would like to develop their career in this direction. Applications are welcome from those with appropriate independent or maintained sector experience, including secondary schools and Early Career Teachers.
The Music Department at Wetherby is a busy and vibrant department that is currently expanding at a rapid pace. We currently have four rock bands, a jazz collective, string ensemble, wind band, three choirs, guitar and harp ensemble, percussion club, and a composing group. We hold regular informal breakfast concerts for the boys to perform in and always have a musical interlude (solo performance) in assembly each week. We currently run acoustic and rock concerts as well as a variety of outside concerts. Quite a few of the leavers go on to get music scholarships and exhibitions at senior schools. We run a yearly music tour, often travelling in Europe.
- To promote and engaging learning environment
- To contribute to the music department’s schemes of work and resources
- To meet with the Director of Music and Performing Arts regularly to evaluate the work of the department and prepare for future events.
- To use appropriate strategies for teaching, assessment, and classroom management consistently and effectively.
- To provide ongoing written observations, assessments and reports.
- To keep up to date with relevant publications and materials to support the planning of lessons.
- To promote the activities of the Music Department in the school and wider community
- To play hymns for assemblies in liaison with the Director of Music.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Bachelor’s degree in music, Recognised teacher qualification status;
Ability to accompany at the piano to roughly grade 4
Familiarity with music-processing software (i.e. Sibelius)
An interest/experience in the tuition of Music Technology
Experience of directing ensembles.
Experience of working in a busy school environment
Maintain high standards of teaching and learning;
Maintain positive relationships with colleagues, students and parents
Become familiar and competent in setting work using Teams and contribute to the management of digital resources
Teach any elements of the academic music lessons as required
Understanding of promotion on Instagram
Ability to edit audio and visual recordings
A good sense of humour
A ‘can do’ attitude with the willingness to learn new skills
