Job description

Teaching Assistant / LearningSupport Assistant / Mentor with excellent communication skills and a good standard of numeracy and literacy is required to join a new state of the art, seven-form secondary school within a well-established Academy Trust based in Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire.

SALARY: £22,737 - £23,058 per annum FTE, Actual Annual Salary £16,207 (30.75 hours per week)

LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire

JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent (Term Time Only)

WORKING HOURS: 30.75 Hours per Week, 8.15am to 4.00pm on Tuesday and one other day (flexible) and 8.15am to 3.00pm for 3 days, Term Time only (39 weeks)

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a highly motivated and committed Teaching Assistant / LearningSupport Assistant / Mentor with excellent communication skills and a good standard of numeracy and literacy.

Working as the Teaching Assistant / LearningSupport Assistant / Mentor you will have the resilience to support a range of students across all subjects to maximise their potential.

As the Teaching Assistant / LearningSupport Assistant / Mentor you will have the passion to enable students with a variety of additional needs to reach their full potential and become well-rounded and independent individuals.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Teaching Assistant / LearningSupport Assistant / Mentor will include:

  • Work with a range of students across all subject areas, in classroom settings and in small groups
  • Consider the additional SEND and emotional support needs involved to aid the students to learn as effectively as possible, both in group situations and on their own, e.g.:
    • clarifying and explaining instructions
    • motivating and encouraging students
    • meeting physical needs while encouraging independence
    • liaising with class teacher to devise complementary learning activities
  • Develop methods of promoting and reinforcing students' self-esteem
  • Contributing to annual review meetings
  • To support break/ lunch time duties as required
  • Support extra-curricular policies and afterschool on a rota basis

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Empathy with students and sympathetic of their needs whilst pushing for the best possible outcomes and maintaining high expectations
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a good sense of humour
  • Can use ICT effectively to support learning
  • Professionally discreet and able to respect confidentiality on particular issues
  • Life experience is valued, along with patience and excellent teamwork
  • Good organisational ability
  • Competent in working with a small group of students without the direct supervision of a teacher
  • Ability to motivate and encourage children appropriately
  • Ability to work independently and with initiative
