Teaching Assistant using British Sign Language Worcester Full Time

SMART Education are looking for a committed and experienced Teaching Assistant with a real passion to support a key stage 2 pupil who is deaf and uses British Sign Language to communicate! We currently have a vacancy for to support a year 5 pupil full time, who uses BSL. The successful Teaching Assistant will need to have British Sign Language Level 2 Certificate and have previous experience working with and supporting learns who are deaf and actively use BSL.

The young person is in Year 5 and needs assistance from an experienced user of BSL to ensure he is given the highest level of support throughout the school day to allow him to access all areas of learning and the school day.

You will be working 1:1 with this young person therefore it is vital that you are confident in your ability to deliver 1:1 lesson to meet the young person s needs, using planning and resources to deliver intervention sessions based on their IEP and EHCP targets., along with supporting the pupil during core subject lessons.

You will be required to:

• Provide support to a pupil 1.1 using British Sign Language (BSL)
• Create a calm and positive learning environment.
• Build a strong rapport with both the young person and their families.
• Contribute to the lesson plans and activities for the intervention sessions to ensure that the curriculum is covered sufficiently.
• Support a young person with special educational needs, differentiating lesson/activities.

Person Specification:

• A Level 3 qualification or extensive experience supporting SEN within mainstream of alternative provision.
• Experience, Knowledge and Understanding of working with children/young people using British Sign Languagethis is essential to be considered for this role.
• Experience, Knowledge and Understanding of working with a pupil on a 1.1 basis to access learning opportunities.
• An enhanced DBS on the update service or the willingness to acquire one.
• Experience, Knowledge and Understanding of Safeguarding practices.

Job Title: Teaching Assistant with British Sign Language Certificate

Location: Barbourne, Worcester

Hours: 8:30am to 3:30pm / Monday to Friday with a 30-minute lunch break

Salary : GBP85.21 - GBP88.21 per day

Start Date: 1st April 2024

Duration: April 2024 to the end of the academic year initially, with the potential for this to continue into September 2024.
