Job description

How you'll make a difference

The HomeChoice service provides a high quality, comprehensive housing access service for households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. Good housing can help to stabilise communities, reduce inequalities, improve safety and help reduce crime. As a member of the HomeChoice management team, you will play a key role in co-ordinating and managing the provision of housing advice and homelessness prevention services.

What will you be doing?

  • It will be your responsibility to manage a team responsible for offering advice and support to households in line with statutory homeless legislation, providing day-to-day advice on complex cases where necessary.
  • You will lead on monitoring operational quality assurance standards, in decisions relating to housing assessments and homelessness.
  • It will be key for you to correctly respond to requests for reviews, information, and enquiries from members of the public, in line with legislation and council policy.
  • Using your experience and knowledge, you will co-ordinate the assessment of special cases and be the main point of contact for those of particular emergency and public interest.

What we need from you

  • It is essential you are educated to degree level, or have significant experience in front line housing advice in a similar setting and understanding of housing solutions and remedies.
  • You will have experience in housing or homelessness, including significant knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation.
  • You must demonstrate knowledge and experience of working closely with other specialist agencies and partners to ensure that housing issues, including homelessness, are resolved.
  • You’ll have significant experience of dealing with customers, other statutory/voluntary bodies and other officers at different levels.
  • Given the elements of this role, you must be able to manage challenging workloads and meet statutory timescales.
Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post

  • We recognise that our diverse team of skilled and dedicated people make us a great place to work. We welcome applications from everyone and ensure that individuals are selected, promoted and developed on the basis of their merits and abilities.
Our teams at South Gloucestershire Council are making a real difference to the lives of people who live, work and learn here.
  • We're building and shaping communities which people are proud of.
  • We're working with the most vulnerable in our community to help them achieve what they want in life.
  • We're investing in our schools to ensure every child and young person in South Gloucestershire achieves their full potential.
We've achieved a great deal, but we need talented and dedicated people to ensure we continue to make a difference.
