Job description

The Opportunity

The Workplace Management Service Team is responsible for the effective running of the Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS) and the embedding of best practice processes across Parliament.

The Technical Architect is a key role within the Workplace Management Service Team, reporting into the Head of Integrated Workplace Management.

  • provides guidance to the service team, making sure that the technical direction and delivery of the IWMS is consistent and aligned to standards, reference architectures, and roadmaps, collaborating with architectural colleagues as necessary.
  • develops and maintains technical documentation pertaining to the IWMS, working with relevant teams to adhere to correct technical governance processes, and to help apply appropriate organisational standards and methodologies.
  • identifies the needs of stakeholders and explains how that translates to a technical solution, and advising when technical limitations require business change to meet business needs.
  • facilitating discussions between technical and non-technical stakeholders, helping to solve problems using clear, accessible communication.
  • assisting with identifying and mitigating technical challenges or risks ensuring successful outcomes that align with parliamentary priorities and meet parliamentary standards.

The above list of key responsibilities is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope and banding of the post.

What You Need

  • experience in a relevant technical role, demonstrating good awareness of a range of architectures, technologies, and programming languages.
  • awareness of the use of reference architectures and the application of technology policies and/or technical standards, including experience of following clear technical governance processes.
  • experience of building relationships with stakeholders, at both strategic and operational levels, with an ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, whilst upholding the values of equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • experience of supporting the implementation of digital solutions that enable business change, able to innovate and think creatively, showing willingness to apply new approaches to solving problems and learn new methods and technologies.
  • ability to make evidence-based decisions, taking into account risk and complexity, demonstrating an understanding of the impact of organisational context.
  • experience of supporting workplace or facilities management and built environment systems and solutions.
  • the ability to pass security clearance, backed by the right to work in the UK

About The Team

The team's goal is to continue the ongoing development and maintenance of the IWMS (Planon), to ensure its capability remains current and meets business needs. The team supports multiple areas, including Strategic Estates, Service Delivery & Customer Experience as well as the Parliamentary Maintenance Services Team in their day to day running of operations across the Parliamentary Estate.
