Technical Manager & Authorising Engineer (Natural Gas/Mechanical/Biomass/ Petroleum)

Equans is looking for a Technical Manager & Authorising Engineer –

(Natural Gas / Mechanical / Biomas / Petrolium) to join our team, working from home with weekly travel in Northern England and Scotland on a permanent basis.

This is a full time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle or allowance, bonus and benefits package.

The role holder will lead on requests for Natural Gas support and assist with medium hazard Mechanical systems across the North. The candidate will also be responsible for biomass and petroleum systems as AE and will set the standards within our operational teams for these disciplines.

What will you deliver?

• Ensure the EQUANS Safe Systems of Work for Natural Gas, Mechanical Systems (Low & Medium hazard), Biomass and Petroleum are managed and adhered to by our field operational teams.
• Carry out technical training and Assessments and Appointments as governed by the various safety rules.
• Achieve compliance with regards to Gas Safe requirements and Equans Rules for the Management of Natural Gas/LPG and Oil Combustion Installations.
• Develop and support the production of Local Operating Procedures
• Assess and, where appropriate, appoint Authorised, Responsible and Competent Persons.
• Define the requirements of any training that is required for appointment.
• Train and mentor appointed persons and other junior gas engineers to enable them to achieve the required standards.
• Maintain a register of appointed persons including their training records and areas of responsibility.
• Carry out audits at an appropriate frequency and on any other occasion deemed necessary and provide feedback to the LAE on any identified systemic issues. The content and nature of each audit is described in the relevant rule book.
• Provide advice on design and operational considerations when new schemes and installations are being or considered.
• Issue and management of all operational restrictions, safety notices and any amendments to the SSoW to each affected appointed person or Controlling Manager within their area of control
• Investigate dangerous occurrences or RIDDOR incidents.
• Provide advice and guidance to the Operating Unit Directors.
• Act as subject matter experts to support the wider business.
• As a Gas Safe registered engineer there may on occasions be a need to support contracts with the servicing and/or management servicing of Combustion Appliances and associated plant

Who are we looking for?

• Mechanical trade qualifications and have hands on Gas compliance experience.
• Highly competent Mechanical/Gas biased Engineering/Technical Manager, ready for the next step.
• Significant expertise in the management and control of commercial Gas defect and issues, and a working understanding of Mechanical systems in a manufacturing, industrial, defence, commercial and/or healthcare environment, and will use that experience to help drive up standards across the Division.
• An understanding of Biomass & Petroleum systems but not essential, the candidate will be provided with training to gain competency.
• Able to ensure that EQUANS operations are compliant across a range of different disciplines and against a range of different legislation or standards, even those disciplines where an AE isn’t strictly required.
• Be a Subject Matter Expertise (SME) support across the business including into bids, projects, new opportunities, and day to day operational support, including advice and guidance on best practice standards, system and operational asset performance improvements.
• Preferably member of relevant Institutions.
• Significant experience of Building Services Engineering / Facility Maintenance (Manufacturing, Industrial, Healthcare, Education, Commercial facilities and environments).
