Location: UK – Royston

As the Technical Support you will work within a small specialist team to oversee the manufacturing of specialty Chemical Products, providing technical leadership to the production team, managing specific projects for plant development, process improvement, and technological advancement within the Chemical Products Department.

Your responsibilities:
  • Actively promote and uphold a positive Health & Safety culture, ensuring strict adherence to Johnson Matthey policies and standards, with a commitment to cultivating a safe working environment focused on zero harm
  • Perform relevant risk assessments (COSHH, manual handling) for developmental and live production activities
  • Contribute actively to the Quality Management System by diligently updating procedures and batch record sheets
  • Support production teams by applying best practices and leveraging in-depth knowledge of chemistry within Production Operations
  • Apply Statistical Process Control methodologies for data synthesis, analysis, and production, guiding the optimisation of critical processing parameters to enhance operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with shift teams and other areas of the Chemical Products business unit to understand technical processes, assist with day-to-day troubleshooting, and contribute to new process development as needed
  • Support activities such as 5S, Root Cause & Problem Solving to enhance operational efficiency
  • Work with the development team to investigate process parameters, supporting process commissioning and troubleshooting
Requirements for the role:
  • Degree qualification in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related subject, or NVQ Level 4 or above, or substantial relevant working experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of chemical process operator skills
  • Understanding of LEAN manufacturing methodology, including problem solving tools such as root cause analysis (highly desirable)
  • Chemical awareness / COSHH, good understanding of Hazardous signage and Chemical Reaction Hazards
  • Experience undertaking Health & Safety Risk Assessments (desirable)
  • Environmental awareness
  • Understanding of the requirements of quality management systems e.g. ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO15001
  • Experience of working with performance metrics to drive continuous improvement (desirable)
The work environment is mainly shop-floor based and will need to frequently visit all production areas.
Due to the nature of this role applicants must be non-smokers and have been free from nicotine products for at least 3 months.
You must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25kg. You will be required to work Monday-Friday, 08:15-16:30.
