A vacancy has arisen for a Technical Support Officer within the Resources Department, Headquarters, St Michael’s Street, Shrewsbury. The Technical Support Officer will be supporting the Technical Services team who ensure personnel are provided with sufficient PPE and appliances are fully stocked with operational equipment.
Knowledge of this equipment is not required and will be developed during employment. Experience in any technical field, including industrial equipment, buildings or vehicles would be advantageous. The role supports a varying workload and would suit a proactive and highly motivated individual.
The main duties will include the purchase and supply of protective equipment, uniform, usage of supplier systems and using electronic systems to issue stores. Other duties include general warehousing, station deliveries, liaising with suppliers and keeping all compliance documents accurate and electronically stored.
Any applicants must be able to demonstrate detailed experience of using electronic systems to manage stock, stores and/or to plan maintenance for assets. Experience in Microsoft applications is desirable.
The post requires the applicant to participate in an out of hours emergency call out service, for example – taking PPE or breathing apparatus to incidents where fire crews are working. Full training and support will be given. The standard commitment for this rota is 1 in 4 weekends (Friday to Monday) and 1 night per week for which an 18% salary enhancement is typically paid to be available. Additional payments are made in the event of callouts.
The applicant will be the first contact for the department and must be able to communicate confidently with people at all levels. They must also be able to use their own initiative, prioritise work and meet deadlines. The post holder will have a wide and varied workload including collection and delivery of equipment and vehicles therefore candidates must hold a current UK car licence.
A full valid driving licence is essential. The successful candidate will be required to undertake a DBS check before the appointment is confirmed.
