Technical System Tester Apprenticeship

Who We Are

People have always been at the heart of St. James’s Place, we value long-term relationships, and we are a home for people who care about the future – financially, environmentally and socially. These core values have enabled us to become a leading FTSE 100 Wealth Management company.

Our Apprenticeship Programme is a fantastic alternative to university and a unique opportunity to complete a funded and supported qualification whilst you work within one of our divisions, gaining both valuable work experience and ongoing training as well as immersing yourself in our inclusive and collaborative culture.

This structured development path is delivered alongside support from your line manager and the wider business. You will be an apprentice with us for one year and then you will be in a position to take a role within your chosen division.

Location: Cirencester

Salary: £20,830

NB: Assessment centres for this vacancy will be run on 21 March 2024 so please ensure you are provisionally available to attend.

As part of the role, you will study towards your Software Tester Level 4 qualification.

What you’ll be doing:

The ERP team provide system support across SJP for the ERP Head Office system. This Technical System has several functions such as Finance, Payroll, Human Resources and more. The system itself is heavily relied upon for SJP Head Office to operate and therefore the smooth running of the programme is pivotal to ensure there is limited adverse impact in the event of an issue.

You will join the development team, which is a small sub-team of 5 individuals who are responsible for ensuring that the system is easy and efficient to use. This is done by making changes where necessary and testing these to ensure that they positively contribute to the functionality. As an apprentice in the team, you will be performing these systems tests.

Your role is pivotal in supporting the successful delivery of the upgrades to the system and therefore, the continuous successful use across the business.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Executing tests on the ERP application
  • Identifying key test scenarios
  • Creating and amending test scripts
  • Logging defects and tracking them through to completion
  • Reporting test results
  • Analysing test results and supporting the resolution process
  • Maintaining regression test scripts to ensure they reflect recent changes
  • Supporting business areas during regression testing of the biannual system upgrades.

About you

Who we’re looking for:

If you are interested in the Technical Systems Test Apprentice role, you will need to hold a minimum of level 4 in English Language and Mathematics and have strengths in problem solving and ‘thinking outside the box’. You should also hold great communication skills and have a logical mindset.

If you have studied a subject such as computer science, this may be a role which you may find interesting.

Other skills required to be successful:

  • Methodical approach to work.
  • Ability to work to agreed timescales.
  • Inquisitive.

Flexible Working

We understand that employees work best in different ways, at different times and in different environments. We value all of our employees and appreciate that everyone is unique, and at one of many stages within their career. Recognising this, we have introduced a hybrid working policy to provide greater flexibility for part-time work, job-sharing, remote working, and flexibility on hours. Our people are encouraged to work in a flexible way that suits their lifestyle where it can be accommodated, so please ask the question and start a conversation!

Research tells us that applicants (especially those from underrepresented groups) can be put off from applying for a role if they do not meet all the criteria or have been on an extended career-break. If you think you would be a good match for this role and can demonstrate some transferable experience please apply, regardless of whether you tick every box.

Why work for us?
