The Role and the Department

The successful candidate will be based in the Department of Computer Science, Durham University - ranked in the top five for Computer Science, Times Good University Guide 2017/18 (Durham University ranked 4th overall). The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.

TechUP specialises in running blended learning training programmes which train individuals from minority groups into entry level tech roles. Developed in collaboration with industry TechUP programmes include a mix of training in relevant tech skills, one to one mentoring, empowerment and confidence building. Our flexible approach to training ensures that anyone can benefit whatever their learning style and other commitments. Working closely with industry we custom design the curriculum of each programme and provide networking events, careers fairs and interviews.

The post holder with work on the exciting and award winning initiative "TechUP" which will be running the second year of the TechUPWomen Click Start. Ideally, we are seeking applicants with relevant comms, engagement, digital content and event management experience.

The role has two distinct areas of responsibility. The post holder be the main contact for all communications and marketing for the programme. This will include, but is not limited to managing all the social media accounts for TechUP and TechUPWomen which currently comprises of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn accounts, including content creation and engagement with industry, partners and past, current and prospective learners. They will also lead on maintaining the TechUP website, including writing original content and arranging guest content for the blog.

Additionally they will work with external stakeholders and partner communication teams to ensure a cohesive approach to programme comms as well as handling any media requests and press releases.

The second area of responsibility will be to lead on organising TechUP events which include in person and online delivery, ranging from half day to two day conferences. They will liaise with venues, speakers and suppliers, and manage all aspects of the events.

This is a very hands-on role where you will be required to get involved in all aspects of the programme to ensure our comms and events portray the values of the Tech initiative and the journeys of our learners.

This post may be completed working primarily remotely, with one day per week in the office (Wednesday).

If appointed to the post, your line-manager will discuss the specific arrangements with you. Any hybrid arrangements are non-contractual and may change in line with business needs.

There will be a requirement to work outside of normal office hours, as and when required including, being able to work on weekends and evenings during the programme delivery period.
