Main Purpose

Reporting to the Assurance Lead, you will work as part of the Product Design and Development team to manage the testing and Verification of Safety critical electronic products developed by Unipart Rail for Rail industry customers. In this role, you will be required to plan, conduct, and report on testing completed on products under development as well as provide advice and feedback to relevant stakeholders. You will also support current products with technical design changes and modifications as well as the development and test of new and innovative products for manufacture using new and emerging technologies to support the business’ growth plans.

You will be based at the Crewe site, with some ability for hybrid working. You may be required to travel to support testing within the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Testing products for safety, capacities, compliance, and performance.
  • Write test plans for products under development to provide independence.
  • Perform high precision calibration and advanced adjustments using testing instruments.
  • Perform pre-production test sample assembly according to engineering drawings.
  • Conduct product testing and performance testing and record the results.
  • Compiling reports on findings and testing data gathered.
  • Examining and investigating specific aspects and components of products under investigation.
  • Providing recommendations and advice to relevant stakeholders.
  • Work with 3rd party test houses to define and complete external testing
  • Order and stock laboratory materials and supplies to avoid materials shortages.
  • Maintain the laboratory work area clean, safe and orderly.
  • Work in collaboration with engineers across the development and engineering teams ( electronics, software and mechanical engineers) to produce cost-effective, reliable design solutions Work within the New Product Development (NPD) gated process to successfully deliver products to the right specification and timeframes ensuring complete customer satisfaction Undertake tasks in accordance with the engineering key performance indicators (quality, cost and delivery)
  • Perform qualification testing of products and validation of production test equipment specifications
  • Liaise with suppliers for tooling, component and sub-assembly requirements for pre-production samples
  • Assist with First-in-Class static and dynamic trials with customers

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) Electronics Engineering or equivalent STEM based subject)
  • Knowledge of building and testing of safety critical products
  • Experienced in formal verification to Rail RAMS standards or similar
  • Proficiency in assessing requirements quality and generating appropriate test procedures and protocols.
  • Report writing and document and data analysis skills.
  • Strong design review and document checking abilities
  • Comfortable with industry-specific test equipment and software
  • Knowledge of testing equipment maintenance and storage procedures.
  • Experience in product design lifecycle – from concept to introduction into manufacturing (ideally in safety critical industry)
  • Extensive IT Skills for MS Office and Google Suite

  • Good Experience / knowledge of rail industry
  • Lean Process experience
