What we are looking for:

Job Title:Theatre Coordinator

Department: Operating Theatres

Salary: Competitive

Hours of Work: 37.5 per week | Early & Late shifts

Contract Type: Permanent


We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Theatre Coordinator who shares our commitment to excellence in healthcare. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in perioperative care and leadership, with a passion for ensuring safe and efficient surgical procedures. You should be proactive, adaptable, and able to lead a team effectively in a fast-paced environment.


Role Overview:

As the Theatre Coordinator, you will lead our perioperative services to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care for our patients and Consultant users. You will provide strategic leadership and operational management to our theatre team, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead clinical practice and manage staffing to uphold patient care standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate theatre activities and optimise scheduling for efficient resource utilisation and timely patient care.
  • Provide clinical leadership to theatre staff, promoting best practices and adherence to infection prevention protocols.
  • Act as first assistant to surgeons during procedures, ensuring seamless and safe surgical outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and departments to enhance patient pathways and operational efficiencies.
  • Develop, implement, and update policies and procedures to enhance patient safety and service delivery.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance, ensuring a safe and functional theatre environment.
  • Participate in on-call duties.
  • Contribute to departmental audits, quality improvement initiatives, and staff development programs.

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with current registration and significant perioperative care experience.
  • Proven leadership in a similar role within a theatre setting, demonstrating strong managerial and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and engage a diverse team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining clinical standards of excellence.
  • Experience in budget management, resource allocation, and implementing cost-effective practices.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, infection control, and health and safety standards in theatre environments.
  • SFA (Surgical First Assistant) certification is desirable.
