Job description

To work as part of the multi-professional theatre team. This role supports the operational management
of theatre, ensuring effective patient flow within the department.

responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults. The post holder, in
conjunction with their line manager, will be responsible for ensuring they undertake the appropriate
level of training relevant to their individual role and responsibilities and that they are aware of and work
within the safeguarding policies of the Trust.
1. Collect patients from & return patients to wards. To act as a “runner” when required to do
so and to assist in the smooth running of the theatre department
2. Assist in positioning patient in theatre, using safe moving & handling techniques.
3. To collect:
  • Blood requirements from either Satellite or main blood bank
  • Clean trays from sterile stores
  • Sheets, Blankets, Scrubs from laundry
  • Dirty trays & equipment from the back of theatres & take down to Steris Hub
  • Stocking of fluid cabinets
  • Trollies from ward & store.
4. To collect additional equipment as & when required.
5. To take specimens to laboratories.
6. Ensure theatre trolleys are clean & available for use.
7. Clean theatres & table bases & empty bins at the end of the morning & afternoon lists.
Mop floor between cases.
8. Remove rubbish, full vac-sac boxes, sharps bins ect, from back of theatres & dispose of
according adhering to hospital policy.
9. Replace used oxygen cylinders.
10. Sort clean linen & distribute between male & female changing rooms. Put dirty linen from
changing rooms out for collection.
11. Carry out set tasks to ensure equipment & environment complies with our cleaning
policy, and compliance with infection control.
12. To assist in the Recovery Room, moving beds & generally supporting staff within the
department to position patients, safely & comfortably.
