Do you need flexibility in the days you work? Our bank roles (sometimes referred to as “relief roles” in other companies) mean that you will be able to choose from available shifts and have the benefits of a consistent workplace combined with opportunity to build positive relationships with the individuals we support. However you aren’t guaranteed shifts every week as hours are worked as and when required.
We’re seeking an enthusiastic and committed Bank General Assistant – Catering, who will ensure high standards of cleanliness throughout Poplar House, whilst adhering to health and safety guidelines. In addition to this, you will also assist with meal preparation within our Taste restaurant and help serve meals. Our restaurant is open to customers from 9am-2pm, seven days a week for lunch and snacks.
Set in a quiet, residential area of Basildon, Poplar House is a purpose-built development providing high-quality homes with a range of on-site services and facilities. We ensure that customers enjoy their retirement in comfort, whilst continuing to live independently, with the peace of mind that help is on hand if they need it.

The role of Bank General Assistant - Catering will include:
- Helping to prepare meals and drinks, following food hygiene standards
- Working with customers, families, advocates and staff to ensure a high standard of services
- Undertaking general duties as assigned, such as maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, communal areas and customers’ flats
- Identifying and reporting potential faults and hazards on site, to maintain a safe environment
- Maintaining stock levels, restocking as required and ensuring equipment is used in line with guidance notes
Skills and experiences:
- Working knowledge and experience of undertaking general cleaning duties is essential
- Some experience of working in a domestic/cleaning environment
- Level 2 diploma in housekeeping, or willing to work towards
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills
- A general understanding of health and safety in the work place
