Trainee Administration and Finance Assistant
3 Year Traineeship - Salary varies see below;
Year 1 – NLC2 or retained grade up to NLC4

North Lanarkshire Council are the fourth largest local authority in Scotland, responsible for providing key public services to the residents of North Lanarkshire. Effective financial management and administrative processes are critical to ensuring the Council makes best use of all its resources to meet the needs and aspirations of our community.
Successful candidates for these posts will join the Council’s Finance Team and predominantly work in the Education and Families Service whose core operations includes provision of schools and nurseries, Social Work Children’s Services and Social work Criminal Justice.
These posts offer candidates a fantastic opportunity to receive practical, financial and administrative training through work placements in schools and headquarters teams, whilst also being supported through the full Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) professional qualification. The training programme will take approximately 3 years to complete and is designed to provide successful applicants with the skills and experience to participate fully in all aspects of a modern financial and accounting environment.
To be considered for this post you can enter through the Modern Apprenticeship programme or the service also welcomes applicants who are currently employed within the council and looking to pursue a career in Finance. Employees can apply on their current grade up to NLC4 and will continue in this grade until Year 3 when they will progress to NLC5 in line with the programme criteria.
You should have a minimum of two highers (grade A to C) or equivalent or are presently studying to attain this level of qualification and have a minimum of four National 5 awards including English and Mathematics (grade A to C). Candidates should also have a particular interest in pursuing a career in financial administration or accountancy.
You should also be numerically competent, enthusiastic, confident and outgoing. In addition, you will have the ability to research and analyse information and be able to prioritise and manage your workload and examination commitments. You should have good communication and ICT skills and have the ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team.
Applicants should note progression through the salary range is dependent on successful completion of work placements and relevant stages of the AAT examinations.
