About the role:
Don t miss this. An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Educational Transport department of Vertas Ltd for a Trainee/Assistant Transport Manager. Working with a team of people to not only maintain Best Practice for vehicle compliance but also push for the future to improve and find ways of better communicating with our colleagues. Standards that are already forged by our drivers will ensure that the successful applicant will be off to a flying start enabling them to improve existing processes rather than have to spend their time starting from the ground up.
You don t need to already hold a CPC in Passenger Transport as Vertas will provide you with the tools required to pass this but, if you do have the qualification and either newly passed or, looking for a new challenge, then we will ensure that you are able to showcase your true ideals and make for a better place to work for everybody.
Main Purpose of the Job:
As a major supplier of Home-To-School and Private Hire Bus, Coach and Minibus journeys, as well as a blossoming Taxi operation in Bury St Edmunds, we need a keen and eager person to assist The Passenger Transport Manager in ensuring our operation is both legally compliant and operating to a standard that is at a Best Practice level. Ideally with an understanding of PCV operations, you will want to be able to demonstrate that you can lead by example as well as be aware of the challenges that your newfound colleagues face on a daily basis. An ability to engage is vital as this role will entail at least 50% of your day working with the various teams we have.
To also support the Passenger Transport Manager to oversee all passenger services operations within Vertas and ensure legal compliance as regards the company operators & Taxi License.

About you:

Reporting directly to the Passenger Transport Manager, the successful applicant will be supported themselves by a team of highly knowledgeable Depot Managers who will ensure that the product provided is beyond compare. You will need to be in possession of a PCV Licence.

Main Activities and Responsibilities:
Ensure legal compliance with Operators and Taxi License held by Vertas
Supporting the Passenger Transport Manager with responsibility for all Passenger Operations on any contracts operated by Vertas
To support Passenger Transport Manager
Ensure financial targets are met and maintained.
Ensure all business KPIs are met and maintained.
Coaching and management of the Team of Depot Managers, Drivers, and Passenger Assistants
To deputise for the Passenger Transport Manager where required
Continuous Improvement and Development of the operation in all areas of responsibility
To champion group values and challenge behaviours where appropriate
To support the Passenger Transport Manager with implementing department or group wide initiatives, procedures and processes
To manage conduct and performance in line with company process
Ensure attendance levels are managed and maintained.
Health and Safety for all sites and department
Colleague engagement across the Passenger Transport Team
Development of the Private Hire Business across company
Ensure training levels are maintained in line with company and DVSA requirements.
Maintain Green OCRS score.
Lead company towards earned recognition status alongside the Passenger Transport Manager
Hold or gain qualification within six months and maintain PCV Transport Managers CPC qualification.
Manage recruitment levels to ensure that services are covered in line with budgets restraints.
Follow and implement all Vertas policies and procedures.
Any other duties deemed necessary by the Head of Fleet & Passenger Transport or Passenger Transport Manager
Essential: Driving License Required & D/D1 category is also required to perform the role
Please note: D category is for Bus or Coach drivers & D1 is for minibus drivers.
