Transport Manager
Salary – £40,606 - £47,772 per annum (plus benefits)
Hours – 40 hours per week, 08:00 am to 17:00 pm
Postcode of depot – CT16 3EH
As a Transport Manager at FCC Environment, you will support the Contract Manager in all duties required for the effective management of the FCC Operator’s Licence and the provision of direct delivered and subcontractor haulage services to the Mid & East Kent HWRC’s and Transfer Station operations.
This vacancy is for a full-time position, working five days per week.

What will you be doing?
- Be responsible for the operation, management and overall performance of the MEK Transport Fleet
- Ensure that the Transport function is operated in an efficient and safe manner with proper regard to management instructions, health and safety and legislation
- Ensure all contract obligations relating to transportation of wastes from the HWRCs and TSs are fulfilled, including all associated site improvements, and the development of new initiatives, including reuse
- Contribute to the overall safe, efficient and profitable operation of the MEK Contract by working with the Contract Management Teams and sites staff
- Ensure that the Company pursues best practice with regards its policies and procedures, development of industrial relations and legislative compliance within an open and empowered culture
- Ensure compliance with EU drivers’ hours regulations and UK Working Time Directive
- Advise and implement systems in support to the Operational management in the areas of vehicle management, maintenance and efficiency
- Be responsible for the profitable delivery of the haulage services
- Manage subordinate staff and day-to-day operations, including the provision of cover for planned/unplanned absence, induction of temporary labour and visitors and employee relations issues
- Compile, monitor and ensure transport routes are met within the constraints of transport regulations and are cost effective
- Operating all assigned vehicles required for the MEK contract requirements
- Work with the HWRC and TS operational supervisors to provide supervision of the Transport functions
- Seek authorisation for vehicle repairs from the Contract Managers and identifying cost control and reduction measures
- Manage the MEK fleet tyre repair contract
- Ensure that accurate and up to date personnel records are kept for all direct reports
- Manage regular meetings for the Depot and Staff
- Develop and implement training, toolbox talks and other forms of communication to develop initiatives within the MEK Transport area
- Ensure the efficient use of the performance management system to improve performance, identify training needs and facilitate succession planning
- Ensure compliance with Environmental Permits and local rules of the MEK HWRCs and TSs and other FCC owned/managed facilities
- Work with the HWRC and TS operational supervisors to provide supervision of the Transport functions, during all operational hours, including weekends and bank holidays
