Transport Manager
Salary – £40,606 - £47,772 per annum (plus benefits)
Hours – 40 hours per week, 08:00 am to 17:00 pm
Location Postcode – CT16 3EH

As a Transport Manager at FCC Environment, you will will support the Contract Manager in all duties required for the effective management of the FCC Operator’s Licence and the provision of direct delivered and subcontractor haulage services to the Mid & East Kent HWRC’s and Transfer Station operations:
•Be responsible for the operation, management, and overall performance of the MEK Transport Fleet.
•Ensure that the Transport function is operated in an efficient and safe manner with proper regard to management instructions, health and safety and legislation.
•Ensure all contract obligations relating to transportation of wastes from the HWRCs and TSs are fulfilled, including all associated site improvements, and the development of new initiatives, including reuse.
•To contribute to the overall safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the MEK Contract by working with the Contract Management Teams and sites staff and providing weekend cover on a rota basis as required.
Ensure that the Company pursues best practice with regards its policies and procedures, development of industrial relations and legislative compliance within an open and empowered culture.
This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week, however, we will consider requests for job shares to suit your lifestyle (working full days).

What will you be doing?
•Ensure the operation’s drivers comply with EU drivers’ hours regulations and UK Working Time Directive.
•To advise and implement systems in support to the Operational management in the areas of:
oVehicle management and maintenance.
oVehicle efficiency.
oVehicle Operator’s Licence.
•To ensure that appropriate systems are established for the repair and maintenance of all vehicles, trailers and equipment, including all hook lift containers, in accordance with the company policies, contractual requirements and health & safety legislation. To ensure that the systems are being adhered to by operational management and their staff and to advise of remedial actions where needed, including the sourcing of spares, maintenance programming and expenditure consistent with cost effective and efficient operations in consultation with FCC’s Plant/Fleet Dept.
•To be responsible for the profitable delivery of the haulage services and carry out operational cost reporting as required.
•To manage subordinate staff and day-to-day operations, including: -
a)Staff rosters and the provision of cover for planned/unplanned absence.
b)Induction of temporary labour and visitors.
c)Employee relations issues.
d)Sub-contractors on site.
e)Compiling, monitoring and ensuring transport routes are met within the constraints of transport regulations and are cost effective and achieve the target kpis;
f)Operating with all assigned vehicles required for the MEK contract requirements working closely with the Drivers and assisting with operational requirements.
•Working with the HWRC and TS operational supervisors to provide supervision of the Transport functions, during all operational hours, including weekends and bank holidays.
•Seeking authorisation for vehicle repairs from the Contract Managers and identifying cost control and reduction measures.
•Managing MEK fleet tyre repair contract.
•To report to the Contract Manager and/or Area Manager any breach of rules, act of dishonesty, malpractice or corruption by any Contractor, visitor, or member of staff.
•To protect the Company’s ability to trade by always ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and especially that concerning health and safety in the workplace and ‘Duty of Care’.
•To discuss with employees matters affecting efficiency and productivity as and when required.
•To act as the Transport Section’s competent person.
•To ensure that accurate and up to date personnel records are kept for all direct reports, making sure the Company is compliant with Data Protection laws.
•Manage regular meetings for the Depot and Staff to include recycling, health and safety, customer service/satisfaction, vehicle/driver compliance and other relevant issues.
•To develop and implement training, toolbox talks and other forms of communication to develop initiatives within the MEK Transport area.
•To ensure the efficient use of the performance management system to improve performance, identify training needs and facilitate succession planning.
•Ensure compliance with Environmental Permits and local rules of the MEK HWRCs and TSs and other FCC owned/managed facilities.
•Any other reasonable duties that the Contract Manager or Area Manager requests.
