Job description

The starting salary for this role is GBP31,262 per annum, based on working 36 hours per week. This is a 24-month fixed term/secondment opportunity.

We are excited to be hiring a new Transport Officer (Technical and Information) to join our fantastic Passenger Transport Projects Team. The team is based in Woking however, hybrid working is supported, and our time is split between working at home and collaborating in the office. We also work at other offices around Surrey and the successful candidate will be expected to attend all other offices as appropriate, as well as undertake site visits and visits to stakeholders around the county.

About the Team

We are improving our bus network in Surrey, with an ambitious and exciting programme, supported by GBP50million of capital funding to decarbonise the bus network and to improve the passenger experience.

The Passenger Transport Projects Team, in our Strategic Transport Group, is responsible for initiatives that make travel by public transport easier, more accessible, inclusive, and attractive for all our residents, visitors and businesses. This supports our County Council ambition that "No one is left behind" and aligns with our corporate priorities; growing a sustainable economy, enabling a greener future, and empowered and thriving communities

Our Team Vision is to enhance the customer transport experience to provide safe, secure, accessible, and sustainable public transport alternatives to the private car. Ensuring our residents can access key services to maintain healthy independent lives.

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate, with passion and interest and who can make a difference to help all our bus users.

Good quality real-time passenger information (RTPI) is reliant on accurate data, careful day-to-day operational management of the Surrey RTPI system and a creative and analytical approach to resolving data and process issues using various software tools.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day administration and operation of our real time passenger information system which is available across the entire bus network and has more than 500 roadside displays. You will ensure that data is accurate and up to date, perform system checks and interrogation, and extract reports to help the team to understand network performance. We will also want you to provide project support with other schemes and programmes that the team are involved with, such as bus stop improvement projects and bus priority initiatives.

To be a successful candidate you will:

  • Have excellent IT capability and proven communication and organisation skills, with the willingness to work within a small team, and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of people and a variety of stakeholders within Surrey County Council, system suppliers and other organisations.
  • Be skilled in being able to prioritise and plan your workload, particularly in a busy team undertaking many projects of varying complexities.
  • Be expected to be organized, methodical and resilient, always taking pride and care in your work and have an organised, disciplined approach to work with excellent time management skills and the ability to deal with multiple activities.
  • Be required to read and dissect data & information provided through RTPI & data system software packages (full training of the RTPI software will be given and you will be supported by the team).
  • Have an "eye for detail" and a "can-do" attitude.
  • Be proactive in seeking solutions, whilst also being willing to actively provide updates on work and its progress.
