Role: Transport Operations Manager
Location: Abingdon
Hours: Full time (50 hours per week) flexibility is essential due to the nature of the industry
Salary: Starting from £50,000 per annum.
I am seeking a Transport Operations Manager to join my client, that has been a long standing shareholder member of the Pallet Track network. They have a newly formed operations team that requires the leadership and guidance of an experienced Manager that possesses the skills to run the depot both compliantly and operationally efficient.
You must have experience of managing a depot that operates within a pallet network.

About the role:
Reporting into the Managing Director you will manage all transport team members & will be responsible for staff recruitment, training & engagement. You will operate & achieve the transport budget & will be responsible for on site HR & Health & Safety, reporting to Head Office in London.
You will lead, motivate and develop the Transport team members through performance management to raise performance standards and achieve KPIs for cost, service and people.
This is a pivotal role in the business & you will be Oversee the implementation of routing optimisation software from initial trials, vehicle and fuel efficiency analysis, through to going live. Effective management of change with staff.
Responsibilities
- Ensure legal Compliance to DVSA standards
- Experience of managing a depot that operates within a pallet network.
- Review, assess and implement best working practices for the morning and evening loading operations. Speed, efficiency and safety being paramount
- Work in collaboration with our site based parcel division, where the sharing of resources are required on a daily basis.
- Challenge under performance and recognise good performance in equal measure.
- Collate KPI figures weekly and produce period end reports and action plans.
- Ensure driver overtime and use of agency drivers and subcontractors are kept to a minimum.
- Repair and maintenance costs to be strictly monitored and controlled.
- Ensure Best Practice to minimise fuel usage and maximise KPL.
- Monitor and control absence.
- Maximise all forms of revenue.
- Ensure customer collections are made as planned.
- Achieve on time delivery performance.
- Ensure effective communications internally in the Transport office, with the board of Directors, also with our Customers and fellow network members.
- Develop transport department Culture into a “Great Place to Work” atmosphere with Colleague engagement and inclusion a key focus.
- Identify training needs and design/implement training plans.
- Ensure adherence to employment legislation and Company policy as required including; contracts of employment, discipline and grievance matters.
- Ensure the depot works in accordance with the company’s Health and Safety procedures, monitoring and reviewing regularly. Making adjustments and changes to procedures where necessary.
You will need
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of CPC accountabilities & the legislative requirements
- Worked and managed within a pallet network operation
- Experience of a customer service environment.
- Excellent PC and organisational skills.
- Methodical approach to data, figures and reporting.
- Understanding of people planning and scheduling processes.
- Knowledge of health safety and legislative requirements.
- Developing self and others.
