Working for one of the leading independent companies in their industry, our client is looking for an experienced Transport / Traffic Planner who will be responsible for the daily operations of the HGV fleet with various type vehicles ensuring optimum efficiency and effectiveness whilst providing an excellent customer service through well planned routing and scheduling of the work.
The role of Traffic Planner involves the following main key tasks:
- preparing the driver’s daily work sheets
- arranging daily driver allocation to vehicles suited to their abilities
- ensuring vehicles are routed and operated effectively and efficiently
- liaising with the depots to ensure stock levels of incoming and outgoing material/skips/ready mixed concrete are maintained, shipped, and delivered to customers on time and as efficiently as possible
- communicating and liaising with the drivers throughout the working day
- resolving any driver problems or queries as and when they arise
- rescheduling work as necessary to cover driver absence or vehicle breakdowns
- registering and arranging delivery/collection of asbestos related jobs
- implementing the Tructyre/Service Centre Wheel Removal process
- following the weekly maintenance instructions from the Transport department to ensure ‘O’ licence compliance
- maintaining control of the outstanding container report (ie contact cash customers who have had a container for over 2 weeks to arrange collection)
- dealing with any customer queries or problems
- taking and processing customer orders on the ISYS/Weighsoft system
- liaising with the Sales Advisors, Sales Office Manager, Transport & Plant Manager, Assistant Transport Manager, Driver Foremen/Trainers, and Operations Managers
- ensuring the traffic office operation is run efficiently and effectively
- general office administration and supporting other members of the team.
The Ideal Traffic Planner
- excellent interpersonal skills and telephone manner - being friendly, polite, and professional at all times
- good geographical knowledge and understanding of the routing process
- good attention to detail to ensure accuracy of information
- good organisation, communication, and IT skills
- working knowledge of ISYS/Weighsoft or a similar system
- experience of working within a busy and fast paced environment

Hours
Between 6.00 am to 6.00 pm on a shift pattern (ie either 6.00 am to 4.00 pm, 6.30 am to 4.30 pm, 7.00 am to 5.00 pm, 7.30 am to 5.30 pm, 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, which is based on working a 9 hour day plus an hour’s unpaid lunch break) Monday to Friday, and Saturday mornings from 7.00 am to 12.30 pm on a rota basis.
