Trauma & Orthopaedics Registrar

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is proud to advertise for a Trauma Fellow post based at the North West London Major Trauma Centre at St Mary’s Hospital. We are the largest NHS trust in England, and together with Imperial College London we are one of the UK's first academic health science centres (AHSCs). Our five hospitals offer major advances in patient care, clinical teaching, and scientific invention and innovation. The post holder will have the opportunity to learn techniques of complex trauma management at one of the busiest Major Trauma Centres in the UK. As part of the role the successful candidate will exposure to elective orthopaedics at Charing Cross Hospital.
Our fellowships prioritise professional development, surgical autonomy and the ability to teach others . Registrars are expected to leave the programme being confident in their own abilities and equipped to help train others. Registrars are given dedicated time to and are expected to contribute to the research opportunities on offer.
Due to a last minute rota dropout, we are looking for an April 2024 start.
The fellow will divide his/her time between outpatient clinics, inpatient cover and trauma / elective operating lists. Operating lists include both independent and supervised trauma theatre cover at St Mary’s and elective lists at Charing Cross. There will be a degree of flexibility to accommodate the successful candidate’s preferences and interest

This post is targeted at registrars or equivalent seeking to develop their operative and clinical skills whilst obtaining major trauma experience at St Mary’s Hospital. They will be assigned to a supervisor and be expected to be oncall for the Major Trauma Centre sharing the rota with 15-17 other registrars. Responsibilities include attending trauma calls; leading the oncall management of patients, running MDTs. Previous post holders have gone onto successfully apply and pass the FRCS during or after completing this post.
