About The Role

We announce a new 1-year Teaching Tutor position in Terrestrial Ecology and Conservation at the Department of Biosciences at Swansea University. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a vibrant and growing Department and a highly successful team of teaching and research facing academics and gain key experiences to enhance your CV.

At Biosciences we offer 3 undergraduate degree schemes accredited by the Royal Society of Biology, in zoology, marine biology and biology, and popular taught and research Masters courses covering a wide range of topics, from Global Ecology and Conservation to Biodiversity and Ecosystems, to Natural Products and Environmental Resources. Our department is immersed in the beautiful Singleton Park, facing the beach, and located close to stunning natural areas, including the Gower Peninsula, the Brecon Beacons National Park, and Pembrokeshire, excellent for teaching our field courses. We have fantastic modern teaching and research facilities, with 100% of our Research Environment judged as world or internationally leading by the latest REF evaluation, and we produce excellent research, with 94% of our Research Outputs judged as world or internationally leading by REF.

You will be contributing to our BSc and MSc teaching in Terrestrial Ecology and Conservation, including by teaching modules on animal diversity and behaviour, botany and ecology, conservation and endangered species, and on domestic and overseas field courses. A key aim of fixed term positions at Biosciences is also to critically enhance the CV and employability of the successful applicant and hence you will be mentored by experienced academics.

The post requires a PhD (or be near completion) in Biosciences and related fields and capacity for high-quality delivery of teaching and student learning and a commitment to enhancing the overall student experience. The role is available from 1st September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
