SEN Tutor - Employability / Work Based Learning

Term time - full time role

Cheltenham

Are you an innovative and creative teaching professional inspired to use your skills to support people with complex physical and learning disabilities? Join the highly respected team of Tutors at National Star.

You will be working 37 hours a week term time (40 weeks). Based primarily at our Greensteps Learning Centre in Cheltenham, we would like you to have access to your own transport to visit other sites and to support your learners through their work placement programmes.

It will be your job to design and deliver high quality programmes of learning for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities who aspire to transition from college into sustainable voluntary and/or paid employment.

Multi-disciplinary work will be critical in your role so that you can ensure students maximise their learning, boosting their independence and wellbeing to prepare them for life and work after college.

You will be part of a delivery team including teachers, job coaches and therapists who work collaboratively to support young people to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required for adulthood and working life.

The learners you will work with will have a range of physical disabilities and learning disabilities. You will be skilled at providing highly differentiated theoretical and practical learning opportunities that maximise opportunities for progression and personal development.

It goes without saying that you will be a first-class communicator, who is proactive and forward-thinking with excellent organisational skills and the ability to build effective relationships with a range of external stakeholders.

You will ideally hold a full teaching qualification (Level Five Diploma in Teacher Education or PGCE). Level 2 qualifications in maths and English are required for this role. If you are not yet qualified but have a good range of skills relevant to this role and are willing to work towards these qualifications, we could consider your application - however the salary would be adjusted accordingly to c. £25,870 FTE.

Knowledge and experience of using the Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement (RARPA) framework, the tried and tested approach to ensuring the quality of non-accredited learning for students with special educational needs is also required.

National Star College is a specialist college that is at the forefront of innovative teaching practice and graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted. Join our team and develop your career to become an expert in the field of specialist education.

*Interviews will be held during the course of the advertisement - please apply early as we may close the vacancy if a suitable applicant is appointed.*
